The beauty just continues. You come over the top of a hill and the desert opens up before you in the most beautiful colors. These pictures do not do it justice.
The Painted Desert Inn was built by Herbert Lore in 1924 on a high perch overlooking the Painted Desert.
The Inn was nicknamed the "Stone Tree House" because so much petrified wood was used in its construction. In 1935 the Park Service purchased this property and made it part of the Petrified Forest National Park.
