Viva Las Vegas

LV, NV  High 92  Low 71

We left Dazzo’s in Wikieup and made a leisurely drive to the Road Runner RV Park in Las Vegas.

We have been to Las Vegas so many times that we decided this was going to be a relaxing time not a sight seeing time.

When we got the new tires on the Bungalow, Jim kept the old tires (which weren’t very old) and we brought them here to give them to our friend, Key. To thank us for the tires, Key took us to Vincent Neil’s (Motley Crue) in Circus Circus for dinner. Jim and Key had steak dinners and I had chicken wings. Food was excellent. Jim even liked the vegetables.

After dinner we stopped at Krispy Kreme and went back to our place to visit for the rest of the evening.

I have got to get back into the practice of taking pictures. I really wanted to get one of Key and totally forgot about it.

Tomorrow we head further north to Caliente, NV. Just taking our time.

And We’re Off

Wikieup, AZ   High 76  Low 60

First the great news. Jim’s cancer scan came back negative. We are good to go for another six months.

We met up with Paula for lunch to say so long and then met up with Dianna for dinner on Tuesday night to say bye. It’s really exciting to get on the road but still hard to say those good-byes. Thank goodness they are just temporary.

Monday we spent most of the day moving stuff from the fiver to the Bungalow. We had stripped the bed in the fiver and had taken all the sheets and blankets to the laundromat early Monday morning. Got the bed put back together and started moving things. Jim went up into the bedroom to grab some clothes and discovered that we had a very sick Skittlez. She had thrown up all over the freshly made bed. It had soaked all the way through to the mattress cover. So we stripped everything off and headed back to the laundromat to rewash all the sheets, blankets, and quilt.

Jim went home to check on Skittlez and discovered she had vomited behind his chair a couple of times. Got that cleaned up and we could tell she was not feeling good. She was restless, shivering and yet lethargic and her eyes were so sad. She also would not eat anything which is just unheard of for her. She was very thirsty and drank some water. Well, of course, that didn’t stay down and we had several more messes to clean up. We restricted her water intake as much as we could while making sure she didn’t get too dehydrated. She finally settled down for the night on a quilt on the floor.  We checked on her several times during the night and she didn’t even want to raise her head to look at us.

Then about 3:30 in the morning, Scooter had a seizure. She hasn’t had one for months and I had almost forgotten about them. It lasted for about five minutes (even though it felt like hours) with her moaning and we weren’t able to rouse her from it. Also, during the episode she pooped in the bed. Remember those really clean sheets? Guess who had to do laundry again.

When she finally comes out of the seizure she is really lost for about another ten minutes and then everything is back to normal. At this point, Jim gave up and got up. I tried to doze for awhile longer but got up about 4:45. We were exhausted.

When we left for the doctor’s office, Scooter was fine but Skitz was still not doing very good and we were going to take her to the vet when we got back. We were gone about three hours (it takes us almost an hour to get to the doctor’s office) and when we walked through the door, Skitz was right there to greet us and wanted a treat. She was starved.

I have Yoda ears

We figured out that it was the new pill that the vet had given us for her liver. I checked it out on the internet and it had absolutely no side effects in dogs. Well she sure proved them wrong. We stopped giving her the pill and she is just fine. Back to her normal weird self.

With all that excitement we weren’t sure we were going to be ready to leave town, but this morning about 10:30 we were hitched up and ready to go. We would have been really excited except we were so tired we didn’t have the energy to get excited.

Welcome to Wikieup

wikieup

We are currently at Dazzo’s Restaurant and RV Park in Wikieup, AZ. About half way to Las Vegas. This is a Passport America park for $10, We have a pull through site so we didn’t have to unhitch the truck. Hopefully tonight we can get some sleep.

Across the highway from the RV Park is the Sleeping Maiden. Can you see her?

Maybe this will help.

The wind has arrived and we are rockin’. Sure glad we’re off the road for the night.

Jim Certainly Knows How to Celebrate

AJ, AZ   High 92  Low 70

Happy 30th Anniversary to us.

index

Yep, we celebrated our 30th Anniversary with Jim getting prepped at Shea Hospital. Well, to be honest, most of the prep was done on Monday because Jim had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy.

But the news from the tests made the whole day worthwhile. He had one very small non-cancerous polyp that they removed and they also found he has a small hiatal hernia. Everything else looks fantastic. In fact, if it weren’t for the fact that Jim’s Mother had colon cancer, he wouldn’t have to have another colonoscopy. But the doctor wants him to have one more in five years just to be sure.

Jim was starved so we made a quick stop at McDonalds on our way home. We decided we would go out for dinner to celebrate. We really wanted to go to the Mining Camp Restaurant but when we got there they had switched to their summer hours and are only open on the week-ends.

Our next choice was a restaurant we had never tried – Cowboy Up. Jim really wanted a steak dinner and they got pretty good reviews on Yelp. He ordered a rib eye and I had the chicken strip dinner. I was too tired to appreciate a steak and since it was $30, I didn’t want to waste it.

Let me put it this way – we have made two trips to Cowboy Up – our first and our last. Food was okay but definitely not worth the price. Our poor server was there by herself and the place got busy so the bartender had to help her out waiting on tables. She remained very pleasant and worked very rapidly.

Today we are meeting up with Jeff and Tina for lunch and tomorrow we are going with George and Melva for Chinese. Party On!!

Progress–Sort Of

AJ, AZ  High 103  Low 72

Jim took his last fishing trip of the Arizona season and once again caught some beautiful fish.

The boat is now tucked away under Pat and Polly’s carport for the summer waiting upon our return.

Paula (http://shadowmoss.blogspot.com) bought herself an RV and we were able to be a part of the process with her. We wish her many happy travels.

We got new tires on the Bungalow. The tires on the truck are rotated and balanced.

We also bought a propane tank lock. Our good friends, Ginny and Mickey, headed east and got as far as the Route 66 Casino just west of Albuquerque where they spent the night with other RV’s. During the night they heard a noise and Ginny looked out to see a truck or car driving off. They went outside to look around and discovered both of their 30 lb propane tanks had been stolen. More than likely they were stolen by meth dealers who use the propane to cook their product. What a sad world we live in.

DSCN1940I started looking for propane tank locks and found what seems to be the only one on the market. Our favorite RV store here in AJ carries them and it is now installed on our tanks.

This is how it looks installed.

Now if they could just invent something that would work on a fifth wheel propane tank.

We said goodbye to Aunt Happy for the summer. She is doing amazingly well. She is still using a wheel chair when she leaves her apartment but is able to use her walker inside. When we left she was on her way to the party upstairs.

More doctor appointments next week. The biggie is on the 24th when we see the Oncologist.

Haven’t Felt Like Blogging

AJ, AZ   High 101   Low 73

Those were the temperatures on Wednesday. Yesterday it was 97 and today it is 75. I like the 75 much better than the other two. But next week we’re going to be back into the upper 90’s and it looks like it is going to stay there until we get out of here.

I’m really not in the mood to blog so I’ll share some pictures that I’ve taken in the last week.

This was a beautiful sunrise over the Superstition Mountains.

Jim and Marv went fishing a couple of days and actually caught fish.

Went to visit Aunt Happy and this duck really wanted to come into the building to visit. Happy is feeling really good and is staying busy with all the activities at her complex.

I was happy to see this Zombie Hunting SUV at Walmart. Good to know we are protected.

This cutie is Dagger – Scooter’s boyfriend. This is just so funny because Scoots doesn’t pay much attention to other dogs but she and Dagger just go crazy when they see each other.
