INTERNATIONAL CIRCUS HALL OF FAME

Peru, IN – We didn’t have far to go to get into Peru so we got set up and I wanted to go exploring.

IMG_6472 I had read that the Circus Hall of Fame was located in Peru and according to their website was open until 4:00. Off we went. Only took one wrong turn so that wasn’t too bad. But they weren’t open when we got there. A couple of motorcycle riders rode up while we were trying to find a person. No luck.

So we took a couple of pictures of some of the circus wagons sitting out in the yard and the high wires where the acts practiced. IMG_6473 I was disappointed we didn’t get to see more. I read that July is really a big month for them and also September when they have the Ringmaster’s Revenge competition.

IMG_6474 The Circus Hall of Fame was established by Ben Wallace in 1892. Circus wagons were repaired, painted and cravings gold leafed. A thousand horses roamed the fields and hundreds of exotic animals were housed and trained in numerous barns. The old timers tell that it was not unusual to see zebras and camels grazing on snow covered ground. Visitors passed by daily just to see what was going on. IMG_6475

  3. When you get near Baraboo, Wisconsin, go to their circus museum. They include free performances and if you get there at the right time of year you can see the circus train loading or unloading. We missed the train but the perfomance was awsome!
