THE BELL TOWERS OF WARREN, PA

Imagine what an extraterrestrial, landing in Warren in the year 2500 would think when he saw that this was a city with 24 bells displayed in various places.

I didn’t find all of the bells because downtown Warren is completely torn up for a huge renovation project.

The women at the visitor’s center wasn’t sure what the bells represented but I was able to find out some information.

A man who lived in Warren in the 1950’s, Joe Defrees’, wanted to pull together all of the city's fire bells and display them. Warren's history tells us that fire protection, for many years was in the hands of volunteers and fire bells were very important in summoning these volunteers.
