At the entrance to Rhyolite is a very "different" art gallery. A Belgian artist created his Ghost Last Supper in 1984 and other artists contributed to his gallery.
These artists believed this area represented a place of ultimate freedom where the artisits could pursue their own desires without being fettered by convention.
The result is a rather strange mix of items.
Tribute to Shorty Harris (an early miner in DV). The artists felt totally out of place in the desert and he wanted to include in his sculpture how"alien" he felt. The penguin was the most out of place thing he could think of. So this miner has a penguin companion.
A Ghost Town - really interesting art work - neat!
ReplyDeleteI sure had a lot of catching up to do on reading your blog. Great photos. Can't imagine falling in love with the desert, but I'll take your word for it.
Guess Jim enjoying the fishing a lot.
Really enjoyed the info about the cancer walk. Glad you both were able to help. Looking for a photo next year of you in the walk!
