Bremen, IN High 76 Low 53
Not sure where my brain went but it wasn’t working when I plotted our path through the Chicago area. I decided that we would exit I-80 just beyond Joliet and take US 30 over to Plymouth and then US 6 to Pla-Mor Campground in Bremen.
There must have been 200 lights along US 30 and we had to stop probably 180 times. We also traveled through some poorer sections of the city and the roads were very narrow and rough. Not a good decision on my part but we still pulled in next to Jan and Bill about 3:00. We are now on Eastern Time so it’s hard for me to keep track of what time it is.
I had thought we were going out to dinner after we got set up and Jim had his nap but Jan had thrown a roast in the crock pot. She also had fresh baked bread, potatoes, and veggies. Then a carrot cake for dessert. What a way to end our day. Great food and wonderful friends.
Actually got to sleep because there were no storms to upset the girls. However, about 8:00 this morning the rain started and it seemed like it was never going to quit. They issued a sever weather alert for our area and the weather lady said the more sunshine we saw the worse the weather would be when the second cold front moved through. So I prayed for rain. And the Lord definitely answered that prayer.
Jim got his hair cut today so I don’t have to worry about getting him any dog tags.
Jan and I discussed where we were going to dinner and came up with several choices. The Flippin’ Cow, the Lux Café, a couple of places right in Bremen and the South Side Soda Shop which was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. We decided to give the Soda Shop our business.
I had read good reviews on Yelp for the Philly Steak Sandwich and that is what we all ordered. Jan and I got the spiral fresh cut fries and Jim also got a root beer float. The fries and the float were really good but the sandwich was nothing to write home about.
It was pouring rain when we went in and still raining when we came out. Jan offered to drive home and we hadn’t got 100 feet when the rain stopped and the sun came out. Way to go Jan.
Stay tuned for further adventures tomorrow.
Glad you missed that severe weather, it's all around you. :cO
ReplyDeleteSo nice of you to arrange for Jim to thoroughly test the brakes. I did US 30 once and decided once was a lifetime supply.
ReplyDeleteAny road within 100 miles of Chicago is a bad place to drive! I like to avoid it if I can.
ReplyDeleteThe Lincoln Highway can be a challenge around there.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you're making good progress. Chicago looks like it is hard to get past as the roads all seem to radiate out from there.
ReplyDeleteHome cooking is always great! Talk about rain! From Salt lake City South, parts of I-15 washed out and parts of the interstate crumbled. We are headed south that way in about a week to Cedar City. No telling what we may find! You seem to know people in every city!! What fun! Send me a piece of that homemade dessert!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful welcome you two received from Jan and Bill.
ReplyDeleteIf the ice cream is good, who cares about the meal.
I just read on Jan's blog that your McDixon breakfast sandwiches were really good so I suggested she ask what's on the Dixon dinner menu!
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing worse in an RV than stop and go traffic. I can live with going slow, but a big rig has too much momentum to be changing speed constantly.
ReplyDeleteIt was raining really hard the morning we left Virginia. Maybe you're getting part of that storm. It sure is beautiful now in this part of the country. Too bad it doesn't stay like this.
ReplyDeleteYou are moving right along, and missing the really bad weather. Nice to meet up with friends and enjoy great homemade meal.
ReplyDeleteThere is no good way to get through the Chicago area. Glad you survived it.
ReplyDeleteDon't like reading about brakes :-)
