MARYSVILLE, MONTANA

(After spending most of the week at the rig while Jim fished, we got me out of the house by going to a ghost town.)

Marysville is a semi-ghost town about 25 miles from Helena.

The Drum Lummon mine (named for his native home in Ireland) was owned by Thomas Cruse and by 1900 was considered to be the richest gold mining area in the world with a production of $50,000,000 worth of gold

The town’s population peaked at 4000 with two railroads and 60 businesses which included two newspaper offices.

  1. Interesting "semi-ghost town" pictures. Some of the buildings look real good. Others not in use for some time. Love the picture of the doxies out walking, in the lead, ears flapping, tails wagging...loving the day.

  11. It's amazing how many of these towns seemed to pop up overnight and were gone just as fast. Stick around and you might find a few little pieces of gold they left behind.
