JOY

IMG_3765

There are definitely angels among us.

For some reason I have really been wishing I had a grandchild to enjoy. I think it’s because I’ve been reading so many blogs where many of you are spending time with your grandchildren and it’s the holidays. Our son is getting married next June so there is hope in my future. But Todd and Michaela are in no hurry to have a child so I’m not sure how many years in the future it will be before I get my wish.

Anyhow, my heart and my arms have been feeling empty. On Sunday that changed.

We were at Church and Sacrament meeting had begun. Jim and I were sitting in the back row. Ahead of us sitting on the side row was a family with five children. The youngest was probably about two. He was sitting on his mother’s lap when all of a sudden he looked at us and wanted down from her lap. He was very adamant about it and his mother finally put him down. He took off and came running over to us. Hugged Jim’s legs and then wanted up into my lap. Such joy filled my old heart. He didn’t stay long, hard to sit still at that age. But there are definitely angels among us.

Saturday night we went to the Church Christmas dinner. One thing about it, those Mormons really do know how to cook. After a fantastic dinner of turkey and ham with everything else you could think of, we had the entertainment. Our Bishop and his family (father, grandfather, and sundry cousins) have a blue grass band and they performed for us. A really great time and a wonderful start to the Holiday Season.

Second guy from the left with the mandolin is our Bishop. His father is on the far right with the banjo and his grandfather is second from the right on guitar.

  1. You could always get another dog. I'm sure my grandkids would like another grandparent .... especially at Christmas time and on their birthday. Of course, they aren't babies anymore ... thank goodness!

    Your time will come.

  2. Sandie, Congratulations on the upcoming wedding and the arrival of grandchildren.

All my grandkids AND their friends call me Gramma-white hair? Maybe that's the key--you'll be every kid's gramma!

When I was waiting in the waiting room for my last one to arrive, the cutest little black boy came over, raised his arms, and said, "Up gramma!" So up he got on my lap and told me he was going to have a baby brother and chattered away. He was about three. He wouldn't go back to whoever was minding him so he sat on my lap through the vigil. So adorable. I think there are programs like Big Brother out there, but for Grandparents. If that doesn't work, throw away the bottle of hair color--that seems to work for me. ;-) LOL

  3. Didn't know your son was getting married. Where will the wedding be held? How cute of that little one. Shouldn't we all be like him...reach out and touch someone, make their day!
Man o man is your Bishop young looking. I am sure he brings a ton of energy to your congregation!

  6. Grandchildren are the best! When they are around the air becomes electrified with energy. They ask incredibly astute questions and expect equally thoughtful answers. They are usually very honest sometimes to your discomfort. They can eat you out of house and home. And you can flop into a chair and give a big sigh of relief when they leave.

  8. I like the borrowed babies. You can get all the hugs you want then give them back when you are done. :)

  10. Sometimes grandkids have a way of arriving way before their parents planned, so don't give up hope!

  16. There are various organizations where they match grandparents to surrogate grandkids. generally people who have been transferred to towns miles from their homes and their children dont have the benefit of contact w/ their grandparents,'
You might look into this until the
    bio grandchild comes along.

  17. No doubt about it, grandkids are the reward we get for having been parents. Yours will come in due time...especially with a wedding in the works. Mine are all older now and I miss the wee ones. But my 14 year old granddaughter told her mom the other day that Grandma's house was her sanctuary so I guess some things just get better with age. So glad that little lad listened to his heart and ministered to you.
