OLD CHICAGO ONE MORE TIME

IMG_4248

Needed to plan another lunch at Old Chicago. This time we got Toni, Doug, Freddy and Delcie to drive up from Casa Grande. And we had a surprise for them. Eric and Karla were in town and Jeff and Tina were in Mesa. So I was able to round everybody up and we all met at Old Chicago in Chandler. (Eric by the sign)

It was a fabulous time.

I am definitely not a photographer. I didn’t even notice that half the gang were in the shade until I posted the picture in Picasa. So I apologize for that.

PRAYERS ARE ANSWERED

Eventually. After I learn the lessons of patience and faith.

Challenger As you know, we own two RV’s. The fifth wheel we’re living in and a motorhome that we’ve had on consignment in Montana. We’ve had to continue to make the monthly payments on the motorhome as well as keep it insured and licensed. That left us really strapped money wise but it also caused me to worry about the future. (What, me worry?)

Things like – what if Jim were to die. I couldn’t afford to continue the payments on the motorhome with just my income. So what would I do. And vice versa – what would Jim do if I were to die. I know, I know – I worry about “what if” situations until I make myself sick. Jim always says he never has to worry because I do it all. Even my son has learned to accept that his Mom will drive him crazy with her worrying.

I spend a whole lot of time asking the Lord to help me deal with this problem of mine and sometimes I can let it go and let Him take over. But I think this is one of those battles I will have to fight until I meet Him again.

Then there are the times when He takes great pity on me and wipes out that thing I am worrying about.

2008 Damon CHALLENGER 377 (Used)
Stock #: CR-11-029
Class: Class A Gas
Interior Color: TAN
SOLD!

YES!! our motorhome has sold. We truly did not think that it would sell within the next couple of years. With fuel prices rising and the economy not doing so well, our hopes were pretty well shattered. But with 20 gas Class A motorhomes to choose from, these people wanted ours. I am so grateful for this wonderful blessing in our lives.

BUSY MONDAY

You know how it goes, you do nothing for a week and then everything all in one day. That is how our Monday was.

IMG_4222 It started with breakfast at Coco’s in Mesa with my sister, BIL, and Sharon and George. Sharon and George did the Death Valley Walk for cancer that we helped with. But they are not going to be doing it this year. They both retired and now live in Nevada. Also, Sharon’s Mom and Dad both died within the last six months and she has had her hands full with all that entails.

IMG_4223 It was so good to see them again. Judy, my sister, fell and broke her ankle. However, they did not put her in a cast. They gave her a boot to wear for a week. She goes back again on Thursday to find out if it needs to be cast or if it will heal just using the boot. Never a dull moment. She’s getting around okay but it really starts to hurt if she lets the leg hang down for very long.

IMG_4226

IMG_4227 We got home from breakfast and Chuck came over to help (I should say do the entire job) fix our leaky gray tank. He and Sylvia also have a Montana fifth wheel and live just across the street from us. He had already fixed their gray tank and knew exactly what needed to be done to remove the arctic package and get to the tank.

IMG_4232 Jim is feeling pretty frustrated because he can’t bend and twist to get under the rig and fix it himself. I keep trying to tell him that he has helped out other people and he needs to learn to accept help as well. Yeah right!

IMG_4241 Couldn’t see a hole anywhere so they had to fill the tank up all the way until the pressure of the water showed two small streams of water coming out the bottom of the tank. Chuck was then able to find about a 4 inch crack in the tank. They used two different types of epoxy and aluminum foil to fill in the crack and we are good to go.

The girls were confined inside and were not happy.

IMG_4229

While the guys were working on the tank, I had lunch with Dianna and then we went to a movie. Went to see Denzel Washington in Safe House. I had forgotten how loud movie theaters are. There were only six of us in the movie which is perfect. The move was pretty good. Rather predictable and full of lots of blood. But Denzel is just as good looking as ever and his co-star, Ryan Reynolds, isn’t too bad either.

that kool band 1 Monday night Jim and I had a date. We went to the Broadway Palm Theater for a night of 50’s and 60’s music. That Kool Band was performing and it was really a fun time. One of the things that I really liked was that they stayed true to the music and didn’t do their “own” interpretations. I knew every song. IMG_4236

And our sunset Monday night.

GREASEWOOD FLATS

greasewood

Jan told us about Greasewood Flats after we went to the Desert Bar outside of Parker. Saturday Jim and I decided we really needed to get out of the house and a hamburger sounded so good.

IMG_4201 Greasewood Flats is only about a mile from Pinnacle Peak and is much easier to get to than the Desert Bar. The road is paved.

During the Arizona Territory days, Reata Pass was on an old stagecoach stop along a dust-filled, rocky trail that wandered often steeply uphill northeast from Phoenix and on to connect Fort McDowell on the Verde River and Prescott. Crossing the McDowell Mountains in those days was no easy task as the climb took its toll on the passengers and horses.

IMG_4202 Travelers were treated to a hearty meal and cool drink while the horses were being watered, A knee-high foundation of boulders and mortar supported a wooden one-room stage station built in 1882. Portions of the adobe walls and old stone foundation still exist, making Reata Pass the most authentic "cowboy" restaurant in the Valley. The old jailhouse across the road is original and was used elsewhere in the 1880's to hold Indian prisoners.

greasewood1 The 120 year old bunkhouse is currently where the bar and kitchen are located. Dollar bills, signed by patrons, hang from the ceiling. No indoor seating. You go in, order your burger and libation and take it back outside to sit at a picnic table.

IMG_4212

IMG_4209 Jim ordered a BLT and it was excellent. My burger was wonderful and just what I was craving.

We had a good time and it would be a lot of fun to go back there with a group of friends.

IMG_4205 Hey Kid – didn’t know you had started your own business. LOL

We came back home via the backroads and through Fountain Hills. Sure some pretty scenery up that way.

And then as we got close to home – one of my favorite views of all. The Superstitions

MORE GOODBYES

Lunch group

It’s only March and yet people are on the move. Not us, but other people. We had already said goodbye to Paul but when we found out that Lee and also Denise were not far from Casa Grande we just had to have another get together.

We went to Old Chicago which was about the same distance from everybody. What a great time.

But once again, it was time to say goodbye. Lee is headed to New Mexico for a few weeks before he heads back to North Carolina for doctor appointments and such. Denise is slowly making her way east as she heads back to Newfoundland. Paul headed for Tucson before going to a Teton Rally near San Diego and then up through UT, CO, WY and MT for the summer.

Jim and I – well we’re still sitting here. Is it May yet?

PAUL AND PINNACLE PEAK PATIO

IMG_4166 Paul at Superstition Skies. We met Paul in 2008 at Escapade in Gillette, WY. He was our next door neighbor and we have remained best of friends. He usually spends a month here in the Phoenix area every winter so we get together quite often.

pinnacle peak Pinnacle Peak.

The Peak is beautiful with a great trail but I can’t recommend the restaurant. They are supposed to be known for their steaks so that’s what we had. My $13 sirloin at Old Chicago the other night was just as good if not better. You also don’t get a view of the Peak from inside the restaurant. So we won’t be back.

NATIONAL PIG DAY

PigLove

Did you know that today is National Pig Day? This event, which is celebrated on March 1, was started in 1972 by two sisters, Ellen Stanley and Mary Lynn Rave. According to Mary Lynn, the purpose of National Pig Day is “to accord the pig its rightful, though generally unrecognized place as one of man’s most intellectual and domesticated animals.”

In case you need something to do today, here are some ideas for you.

Make pig tails by cutting a pink circle around and around toward the middle and then taping it onto the back of your pants.
Make a pig ear head band.

Make pig snouts to wear out of empty toilet tissue rolls.

Make a 3 Little Pigs scene out of straw, craft sticks, etc.

Make pigs out of pink clay.

Have the children make pink thumbprints on a piece of paper and then make the prints into pigs.

Cut pig shapes out of pink construction paper and let the kids add some brown finger paint (mud).

And how are you going to celebrate this wonderful holiday?
