Okay gang – here’s the recipe. I saw it on FB. Mine definitely did not look like this picture. The chicken looked anemic and the sauce was as runny as water.
Slow Cooker Orange Chicken
2 large carrots, peeled and slice. 2 green or red bell peppers, cut into chunks. 2 stalks celery, cut into chunks. 3 cloves garlic, finely minced. 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts. 3 tbps soy sauce. 2 tsps ginger. 1 tsp each salt and pepper. 8 ounces orange juice concentrate. 2 cups mandarin oranges. 2 green onions chopped
Put everything but mandarin oranges and green onions in crockpot. Cook on low 4 to 6 hours. Serve over hot rice and top with mandarin oranges and green onions.
Also want to explain this picture. We have three steps outside and one step inside our fifth wheel to enter the rig. Skittlez loves to lay on that inside step in the sun. Nice and cozy. I took the picture looking down at her from my chair.
Had a really exciting t-storm go through last night but no hail so I’m grateful even though I’m tired today. Certainly cooled down our weather.
Hope you’re enjoying your summer. It’s really slipping away rapidly.
That picture definitely does not look like it was cooked in a slow cooker. The chicken pieces appear to be battered and fried. Looks more like it was quick cooked in a wok. I've seen a number of recipes on Facebook that couldn't possibly match the picture posted. Too bad. Skittlez looks so cute and fully prepared to guard the door. lolReplyDelete
Well, the picture really looks yummy - I can see why you tried it. I thought for a second that Skittlez was in the microwave.ReplyDelete
Oh your picture of Skittlez was so cute. I needed it after reading two sad blogs. Effie loves her sun too, I thought she was in a box at first. Thanks for the picture so cute. Count on dachshunds to make us smile :)ReplyDelete
Summer sure is slipping away. Can't believe August is almost here.ReplyDelete
One of our four rescue pups is a wire-haired doxie...he sure loves the sun too!
I agree that the chicken in the photo doesn't look like it was cooked in a crock pot.ReplyDelete
Oh your image of Skittlez was so cute. I also loves sun. That picture decisively does not gaze like it was prepared food in a slow cooking appliance. The pullet pieces emerge to be scruffy and fried.ReplyDelete
Tahitian Noni Juice
I agree with Colleen, Sure looks like it was stir fried in a wok. And the breading on the chicken and tender crispy veggies.ReplyDelete
I think it would be pretty good cooked that way with a few modifications.
It took me a couple of looks, but I'd figured out the pup shot, which I think is a great one.ReplyDelete
I agree, too, that the chicken photo must be something cooked in a wok or skillet; definitely not the result of a slow cooker. Haha! Me, too, thought the pup was related to the slow cooker comment . . . teehee! (Not really of course, but it was an excellent little teaser you had there!) Great photo of utter doggie contentment.ReplyDelete
Skittlez sure found a cozy spot. Got a kick out that picture.ReplyDelete
I keep trying recipes from Pinterest and the majority of the ones I've tried are gross!ReplyDelete
OKAY, friends, my personal chef pointed out that the recipe does not call for any thickener, so it would be runny. Needed to have some cornstarch for thickening. And the chicken chunks should have been browned a bit before going into the slow cooker. That may not have made it taste any better, but it would have looked better for you. Any other questions should be directed to Suzy.ReplyDelete
That step is also Chica's favorite spot because it usually gets a lot of sunlight. I have to be careful I don't step on her as she does not make any attempt to get out of the way if I am going outside.ReplyDelete
Nice that you even put a lamp in Skittlez favorite box so she can enjoy warmth when the sun goes down.ReplyDelete
What we don't do for our furry kids! :c)
Glad you explained that picture ... I can 'see' it now. As I've said a bazillion times ... when I click on your blog and see the picture of your two girls? ... HAHaaaa.. love it.ReplyDelete
I'm not a cook and I agree that anything I've ever cooked in a crockpot doesn't look like stir fry.
Crock pot recipes often come out much runnier than you would think. I've been known to add a thickening agent like corn starch at the very end. I agree the photo is not a crock-pot cooked recipe.ReplyDelete
I imagine the floured chicken provided a thickening of the sauce. I have never had peppers come from the crock pot! Someone was fudging.ReplyDelete
That top picture looks like something that came from Panda Express; I can see why you tried making it.ReplyDelete
Thanks for posting this recipe that I will never try given your wonderfully scathing review!!ReplyDelete
Love, love, love the picture of Skittlez!! I agree with Rick, if it didn't work for you I KNOW it won't for me. Looks good though!!ReplyDelete
Great picture of Skittlez:)ReplyDelete
The picture of Skittlez brought a smile to my face!! Very cute. I remember seeing that recipe on FB and it does NOT look like a crock pot dish. Somebody has a good imagination, I think!ReplyDelete
I agree that it does not look like a crock pot finished dish. The recipe sounds good. I can see why you wanted to try it but the chicken does look battered and deep fried.ReplyDelete
Thanks for explaining the Skittlez photo. I couldn't figure out how she was situated, and it looked kind of dangerous. But I knew you guys wouldn't let her lie where she could get hurt, so I didn't worry my little brain about it. After reading your explanation, I could see what was going on. I think the screen door is what threw me off.ReplyDelete
That looks like a perfect little sun spot for a pup. :)
