Found a new recipe and it sounded so good. Crockpot Orange Chicken. I chopped veggies and chicken and went to the store for everything I didn’t have. Put everything in the crockpot and figured dinner would be ready in about 5 hours.
Five hours later, I took the lid off the pot and thought, this doesn’t look very good and it really doesn’t even smell very good. But I tried a bite. Then I made Jim try a bite, just to be sure. It was horrible. In fact, it was not edible. I double checked the recipe and everything was as it should be but it still wasn’t edible.
So we went out to dinner. All that time and money. In the garbage.
Once again, I am almost out of gigabytes so I’m not spending much time on line. I’ll have to catch up with everybody next week.
I hate when that happens, especially when a recipe sounds so good.ReplyDelete
For some reason I don't like meat with fruit. A lot of recipes use oranges, grapes, etc., but the only one I can think of that sounds good is lemon with fish or chicken. Too bad about the meal.ReplyDelete
I hate when that happens too. Sometimes the recipes aren't as good as they sound. I've been doing a lot of experimenting with different foods too but mainly on the BBQ with different flavored wood chips -- amazing flavors even in the vegetables. Gypsy said she didn't like meat with fruit! Actually, I like fruit with just about everything.ReplyDelete
I wonder what went wrong. It sounds delicious. I long oranges with chicken. Very strange indeed.ReplyDelete
What a bummer! I like fruit and meat too so I would have tried the recipe like you did...ReplyDelete
I find some oranges to be bitter. That may be what happened to this one. I try to keep a can of beef stew in the pantry for recipe failures but I like your solution better. :)ReplyDelete
Don't you wish you could taste test new recipes before you put all that time and money into them. That is what scares me off of trying new things. $$$ is hard to throw away.ReplyDelete
That happens with a lot of my cooking, but that's another story and more a personal problem.ReplyDelete
Could the chicken have been on the edge of going bad?ReplyDelete
Funny, I made a crockpot chicken one too. One from Facebook. It did not have veggies though, cashews. It was good.ReplyDelete
I don't think the chicken liked the recipe either... :cDReplyDelete
Maybe some of the ingredients were bad?ReplyDelete
Hi there... sorry the meal did not turn out well, but I enjoyed hearing about it since we are in a place where we have internet access and could check your blog. We grilled trout last night and talked about the fishing Tom looks forward to with Jim down the road. Good to stay in touch... hugs to you both. Dianne & TomReplyDelete
Well, at least you tried. I tend to just make the same things all the time.ReplyDelete
That recipe (Crockpot orange chicken) sounds very familiar. Did you find it online? Seems I saw that somewhere recently and can't remember where. Well, anyway, now I won't have to find it and try it!!ReplyDelete
I also wonder what went wrong ?? I thought crockpot cooking was the easy way to go. And here I thought you were turning over a new leaf and not eating out as much !! LOLReplyDelete
I saw that recipe on line too and wondered about it.ReplyDelete
Sorry you tried it first, I can throw that recipe away now.
Are you sure there isn't something wrong with your crockpot?ReplyDelete
Thanks for the warning about that recipe. If I ever see it online, I won't be trying it.ReplyDelete
Too bad! I made a Sweet and Sour Chicken with Pinapple recipe a couple of weeks ago and it was also a crockpot dish and I wasn't overly impressed with it either but at least it was edible.ReplyDelete
That's a true disaster. Hate it when that happens. We've had that happen -- bad enough when you make a recipe that turns out anywhere from mediocre to awful -- for yourself. A true disaster when you've made a new recipe for company and it turns out that way!ReplyDelete
I once got a recipe off a product bottle, Sandie. I made it and we had to throw it out. I thought it would be a good bet since it was on the product--wonder how many sales they lost. I never bought the product, again. I wish I could remember the name of it--I think it was some kind of steak sauce.ReplyDelete
Well, at least you got dinner out!
Bummer! First bad electricity, and now bad food.ReplyDelete
I thought of Jim yesterday when I added a new tee shirt to my collection. I hope you'll be able to check out my post tonight to see it.
I hope your dinner out was good! I guess we've all done that before. And will again!ReplyDelete
That's too bad! I've had some disasters, but usually force my way through one meal, and then tossed the rest. The dinner sounds good, orange and chicken, what was so bad about it, I wonder?ReplyDelete
Sounds like some of my cooking experiments. Oh well, you probably had a nice dinner out.ReplyDelete
I saw that recipe on FB and it sounded interesting to me too. Sorry you were the guinea pig, but glad I don't have to bother trying it now!ReplyDelete
