LIFE CHANGES

IMG_4437

Sometimes life throws you a curve ball and hopefully you’ve learned how to hit them out of the park.

When Jim was going through his pre-op for his back surgery, the doctors took a chest x-ray. They found a mass in his left lung and told him as soon as he healed from the back surgery he needed to have a biopsy.

He had the biopsy done and yes, it is cancer. At this point they plan on doing surgery, hopefully next week or the week after. Then we’ll have to see about whether he needs any chemo or radiation. We have been seeing a lot of doctors (surgeon, pulmonologist, cardiologist, internist) but we still haven’t met with the oncologist.  Once we have that appointment, then surgery will be scheduled.

We will be staying here in AJ while we get this taken care of and still plan on being in Montana for our son’s wedding on June 24.

We are doing great. The Lord is taking over my worry for me cause I need to not be hysterical for Jim. lol

Not sure how much I’ll be posting but I will let you know how things are going when I know something more.

Prayers are definitely appreciated.

  3. Oh, Sandie, this brings tears to me. I am so sorry to hear about Jim's cancer. I haven't been reading blogs for at least a couple of weeks and I began reading today and you were first on my list. So sad. Hang in there. I went thru breast cancer in 1996 - surgery, chemo and radiation. I pray that Jim gets thru his challenge. I know blogging isn't going to be your number one priority, but please let us know how things are going when you find time. There are many, many of us out here in blogland that cares about you both.

  7. I'm not often at a loss for words, Sandie, but this is one of those times. I hope you'll draw your strength from people like David and Sherry and Ron and Sharon-In the Direction of Our Dreams and the Princess and the Cowboy.

Know that my thoughts are with you and Jim, and I wish you peace during this difficult time. I'm hoping that Jim gets a good diagnosis like my sister-in-law who lived in comfort for 24 years after her first diagnosis and surgery for lung cancer.

  11. A diagnosis of cancer is no longer as dire as it used to be. Here's hoping that because they found the mass early, it will be successfully removed and follow up therapy will bring a full clean bill of health!

Jim will b in my thoughts. I am also a breast cancer survivor, and I can imagine what he must be feeling now.

  20. Its really devastating when they tell you stuff like that..... and I know because they told me the same thing... But all you can do is put your faith in the Docs and the Hospital and pray that they can take care of it for you. And in this day and age they usually can, so I am optimistic for a full recovery. Our prayers are with both of you. Rod and Loyce.

  29. All I can say right now is that I am so angry! I can see clearly what is happening. Satan is attacking. We in blogland are praying for my John and others and God is healing and touching His Prayer warriors! Satan cannot stand the victories and is trying to discourage and defeat. THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! Satan was defeated at the empty toumb. And Satan will be defeated here! Rest assured, Jim WILL be healed! Nan

  30. Well, Sandie ... I'm not going to be negative. You and I discussed this on the phone. I think you both had someone looking over your shoulder. Jim had that back surgery for a reason. If he hadn't had it, the mass would not have been discovered. It was an early discovery and I bet nothing has spred. It'll be just like Terry's cancer. I just know that. They'll get it all. We both know that.

  31. I am so sorry to hear this news but u have done the right thing..turn it over the the One who can handle it. Hope u can do better than me...I keep wanting to "help" Him handle it...it's taken me quite some time to learn to ask Him and then leave it with Him. Sometimes I think just hearing that u have it is worse than the treatment...at least it was for me. I had breast cancer in '95...was diagnosed in June of '10, it has come back in my bones. No cure but with treatment the dr. said I could have many years left to enjoy. Just wanted u to know there is life after the diagnosis. I'm coming up on 2 years and praying for more. We've decided that like everybody else, we only have today so we must life this day and let the rest take care of themselves. I asked my Father in Heaven to lead me to the right doctors, the ones who would do His will. That has happened. Now I simply ask Him to handle this day and that His will be done and that I can accept His will. He has never let me down. Remember, we all have just this day, yesterday is gone and no one is promised tomorrow. But if u do ur part and keep ur thoughts where they need to be, His will will be done and u 2 can continue on this journey we call life. My prayers will continully be with u both. Hope u have time to let us know how things go. May Heavenly Father continue to hold u both in His arms and lead ur way.

  32. Sandi - Please just know that our prayers are going up there with all of the others. Feel the peace in knowing how many friends and loved ones that are rooting for you and Jim.

With all of the technology today cancer does not carry the same fear as it did years ago. It can be beaten.

    Let Go and Let God.

  41. Oh, Sandi, I'm so sorry to hear this new diagnosis. You guys are strong and have each other, and you'll get through this. Add my prayers and good thoughts to the rest, I think about you guys often, and will add a prayer each time.

The only good thing is that the back surgery caused a lung x-ray to be done - otherwise you wouldn't have know about this cancer until later. I hope the oncologist will be able to take care of Jim quickly and pray for a speedy recovery. Keep in touch when you can, we are all there for you guys.
