Salt Lake to Kanab

Had a good breakfast at the hotel while waiting for rush hour traffic to calm down (as if that was going to happen).  Since the hotel is located on the beltway around Salt Lake, it was easy to get going in the right direction - south. Lots of traffic but I just picked a lane and stayed there for many miles.

My first stop was Fairview, UT. I wanted to stop at the Corner Station which offers deli foods as well as local crafts in a renovated 1921 gas station. I definitely wished I had skipped the hotel breakfast because the Station menu looked so good. They were really busy as I wandered around looking at all the crafts. Next time I'll stop here for breakfast or lunch.

This deli was awarded a $50,000 grant in August from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Be interesting to see what changes they make.

I only stopped long enough to take a picture of this beautiful temple in Manti, UT. I didn't plan far enough ahead to be able to go through a session. And I also discovered it's quite a walk from the parking lot to the temple entrance. But what a beautiful building.

One more stop before I call it quits for the day. (I made this stop before Robert Redford died.)

Butch Cassidy's childhood home is just south of Circleville, UT. I fell in love with Robert Redford when I saw the movie, "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid back in 1969. I know a lot of girls fell for Paul Newman's blue eyes, but Robert was it for me. Only time I have ever had a crush on a celebrity.  So I knew I needed to make a stop here.

Butch's name was Robert LeRoy Parker and he was born in 1866. He took up bank robbing when he was quite young and became very successful. He and the Sundance Kid were really good friends and led The Wild Bunch on many successful train and bank robberies.

When I look at this house, I learn all over again how much I appreciate the comforts we have in our own homes.

I spent the night in Kanab, UT. Jim and I camped here several times and explored the area. Best Friends Animal Sanctuary is located here and we took their tour a couple of times.
