We made a visit to the surgeon today because Jim is still having a great deal of pain in his upper right leg and we weren’t sure if that was to be expected. His incision is healing nicely and isn’t very sore unless one of the girls jumps on it.
The doctor explained that the soreness is from the removal of the vein that was used to create the bypass around the blockage. He couldn’t give us a timeframe for how the pain will last but it could be awhile. That means Jim is still taking the pain medication which means he still can’t drive.
And that means I still have to drive. Gives me the incentive to get out and to Walmart by 7:00 am before the crowds arrive so its easy to park the truck.
The pain medications have taken away Jim’s desire for food so making sure he has something to eat for his diabetes can be a challenge. I’ll know he’s getting better when he wants to eat dinner again.
Skittlez makes sure he gets outside every day. It’s his job to take her out and she runs and hides behind his legs if I suggest I take her out. Scooter doesn’t care who takes her as long as she gets to go outside.
It’s been cold and windy here. Sure not typical Arizona Fall weather. Supposed to have sunshine and 70’s the rest of the week. Pretty nice considering what many other states are going through.
Hard to believe that Thanksgiving is next week. But boy am I looking forward to having some turkey.
Feel better Jim, and Sandie, the Lord knows you're strong and can handle anything He gives you, right? :) Be safe and well.
ReplyDeleteLove you!!
Wish we could pop up there and cook you turkey dinner and I guess we could but I think you have enough on your plate.

ReplyDeleteI was wondering about Jim today so your blog sure answered my questions. Glad he's doing healing. I just wish the pain would go away. We'll be thinking of both of you. Weather is finally nice here and not too hot.
ReplyDeleteHope the pain lets up soon!
ReplyDeleteMy dad had open heart bypass surgery about 10 years ago and said that the pain in his leg where they took the vein hurt more than his chest. So I guess that is a normal thing, but it doesn't make Jim hurt any less.
ReplyDeleteHope he recovers quickly!
Hope Jim gets well soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the update on Jim. I wanted to email you but didn't want to bother either of you. We continue to keep him in our prayers.
ReplyDeleteI know the pain must be bad because Jim doesn't normally complain about anything. Hope he can get off the drugs soon and start to feel better.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update. I have heard the same from 3 other's who have had the same procedure. Has Jim tried warm or very warm compresses for the pain? Works for some but not others. Keeping you both close in our thoughts and hearts.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are adventuring out to walmart. Do you have to sit on a pillow or does the seat adjust enough in the truck?
Wishing you a peaceful Thanksgiving and that the turkey turns out just the way you like it!
Complaining about pain is just something we men are good at doing:)) Glad to hear Jim is coming along.
ReplyDeleteHang in there Jim, you will get better soon. Sandie parking at Walmart is a pain to begin with and I guess you have a much bigger truck than I. But we do what needs doing
ReplyDeleteTake it easy ,soon you will looking at back on it as a past event.
ReplyDeleteSwift recovery
I hope Jim gets lots of rest and heals quickly.
ReplyDeleteBeen thinking about you both. Thanks for the update. I've been hanging back on the invites to go out until I hear you are ready to go out again.
ReplyDeleteHope he recovers quickly and at least the pain subsides, thats no fun at all.
ReplyDeleteI too like to shop early mornings, no crowds or line ups usually.
Sorry to hear about the continuing pain. It just wears on a person. I hear you about driving the truck, parking can be a pain sometimes. Take care of yourself through all of this.
ReplyDeleteHope everything clears up soon.
ReplyDeleteWishing you both rest without pain since I suspect neither of you is sleeping well right now.
ReplyDeleteBeen wondering about you guys. Hope Jim's pain get better soon.
ReplyDeleteHope the pain subsides. Having had my leg opened multiple times for hip replacement I know nerve pain is bad enough, can't imagine removal of the vein. I hope Jim is feeling better for turkey day, nobody wants to miss those good eats. Hang in there Sandie, you're a shining star.
