A Very Happy 4th

Apache Junction, AZ  High 106  Low 82

potluck We had the best potluck here in the park to celebrate the 4th. We had 17 people and enough food to feed four times that many. Tonight we’re staying home enjoying the peace and quiet.

When we camp in Helena we are outside the city limits and fire works can be shot off all times of the day or night for several days before the 4th and a couple of days after. The girls hate the noise and Jim and I don’t get much sleep. Definitely a nice change this year with not much noise and a good night’s sleep.

We haven’t completely become hermits in the heat. We went to dinner with Al and Wilma at Los Gringos Loco. It was “locals appreciation day” and they offered 40% off on food and $2 margaritas. Sure glad we are now considered locals.

We’ve had some clouds in the sky since monsoon season has started so we have actually had some pretty sunsets.

We also joined Paula for dinner one night. She works nights so it’s hard to coordinate getting together

Jim and I both got haircuts and the girls had their nails trimmed. We tried doing their nails ourselves but that turned into a complete disaster. Luckily we found a groomer here in AJ that only charges $5 per dog to do their nails. Best deal ever.

Jim got a graphic for the rear window on the truck topper. Bet you’re all surprised it’s a walleye.

We’ve had some break-ins and theft happening here in the park this summer. It seems that all the parks are having problems. We had four sheds that were broken into and we won’t know what all is missing until the people return this fall. We do know a small refrigerator was taken along with a couple of bicycles and a TV. Very frustrating. Not much the police can do except a drive through once in awhile.

The monsoon season has arrived but other than wind, lots of lightning and a little rain we haven’t seen much of it here in AJ yet. We did have a wicked wind the other night and were rockin’ and a rollin’.

That’s it from our little corner of the world.

  1. What a wonderful way to enjoy the holiday.
Love the Walleye graphic, one of our favorite fish to eat, lots available here in Ontario.

  2. Sounds like you guys had a great Independence Day with the potluck and just taking it easy.

It's been like a war zone here in Rapid City with all the fireworks going off the past 3-4 days. Last night was unbelievable with the whole sky to the east of us being lit up with fireworks until after 12am and then some. I can't imagine people spending that kind of money on the rockets and such. Most were the kind that travel high into the sky and then explode. We like fireworks, but enough is enough.

Take care and have fun out there.

  3. I'd sure like to have some fresh walleye right about now. I'll send you some wet and cold if you'll send me a little heat. :)

  4. Monsoon season is year round in Indiana! We have had our longest period of days without rain....3 days.....since we arrived. Right now, clouds and maybe more rain.

  5. I hate it that thieves take advantage of folks being gone for the season. If I were leaving anything valuable, I think I'd rig up some sort of alarm - strobe lights or a siren type of alarm. A thief would probably wet his pants when that went off because he wouldn't be expecting it!

  6. What is it about 'our' doggies and their nails? anyway? Luci screams like I am cutting her toes off, so I take her to a groomer too, and then have really close cuts when she has a vet visit. She doesn't act u for them, but they have to watch, or I do, as she will try to bite them!! nice huh??? stinker

  8. I can't imagine why Jim would pick that graphic. :)

We had two nights of community fireworks but I never heard any neighbors risking shooting off any. Two nights is because the Minnesota Orchestra plays on the Wednesday closest to the 4th in a park here each year and they end with the 1812 overture with fireworks. That was on the 1st this year--Happy Canada Day. :)

  9. Evidently the thieves can figure out who isn't around and who is. It sure makes for easy targets and none of us wants to be a target. Love Jim's graphic!! Hopefully, you two can get out of there for a little bit at least before too long.

  10. At least it is just stuff. I hope there are no breakins of RVs that are occupied. We are pretty relaxed, but I sometimes worry about someone getting in at night.

  11. Good job Jim on the back window. I am sure the people following you are getting a big kick out of watching the fish jump out of the water.

Hope the big rains stay away. Our rain has finally stopped for a few days.

  12. Crikey ..... those photos sure are pretty. I hope the weather stays ok for you. Those monsoon seasons can be mighty unpredictable, aye?? Stay safe.
The girls got their nails cut?? Mum's been trying to do mine for days now. She manages to get a few done each day. I make it VERY hard for her.

  13. At least there are still other people left in the park to enjoy a gathering with. Yes the creeps watch to see who isn't around and they hit these places hard.

  14. I'll bet we're going to be seeing some of your great sunset photos with the monsoon.

  16. Too bad about the thefts in the park--that's a concern to us too now that we own Arizona property! We are fortunate in that loud noises don't concern Emmi--very fortunate! And so far (she is six years old) I can still cut her toenails. I had a dachshund once that we took to the vet for toenail clipping, we had to muzzle him and it usually took two of us to hold that little dog--awful--makes you wonder why, toenail clipping doesn't hurt!

  17. Only 106, huh. You must be having a cold spell. Scary about the break ins. Hope our neighbors are keeping an eye on our house.

  20. Nice sunset with the desert shadows. Nope, the fish window decal for the truck was no surprise!

  21. But the question is with Jim's window decal is: Is he showing off what he's caught or is it his wishful thinking??? :cD
