Twin Falls, ID High 78 Low 60
We saw our first true colors of Fall today.
After leaving Evel and the Base Jumpers behind, we drove over to see Shoshone Falls.
The guy at the entrance to the park told us that we were going to be disappointed because there is no water coming over the Falls. We told him that was okay but we wanted to see the area anyhow. He asked us if we had an America the Beautiful Pass, and of course we do. So he let us into the park without paying the $3 fee. Since this is a city park I’m not sure if it works that way all the time or if he just felt sorry for us old folks.
We weren’t disappointed. True, there wasn’t a lot of water coming over the Falls, but it was still beautiful. You just need to use your imagination a little more.
Not sure what these birds are but there were lots of them perched on the rocks. Are they pigeons?
These falls are actually more than 50 feet higher than Niagara Falls and are often referred to as the Niagara of the West. I took the next picture from the internet and it shows what the falls look like in the Spring. We sure do want to see that.
Today we are headed to Elko, NV. I’m planning on a Walmart kind of night. Not sure what my internet access is going to be for the next four nights so if you don’t hear from me, everything is good.
It looks like they just turn on the water in the Spring to clean up all the Pigeon poop.
ReplyDeleteMust be spectacular in person.
We've been in the area several times but never made it to the falls. They are beautiful for sure.
ReplyDeleteThose sure are beautiful looking waterfalls especially when all the water taps are turned on!
ReplyDeleteSafe travels and glad you are starting to see Fall colors!
ReplyDeleteFantastic shots and great falls, good for you.

ReplyDeleteYou guys sure do move around and cover a lot of ground. We hope to be doing the same in a week or so if all goes well.
ReplyDeleteThe Fall is my favorite time of year now with the leaves changing colors, a nip in the air and usually low humidity.
I'd love to see the falls when they are running full blast in the spring time. Something for our bucket list.
Hard to believe the water difference over the falls - it's just the opposite down here in Southern CO.
ReplyDeleteAnother nice area to explore, the falls look really interesting too.
ReplyDeleteTravel safe!
Glad you enjoyed your tour of the park in spite of low water flow. Sometimes it's all in the attitude.
ReplyDeleteYou can see why ornithologists now call pigeons "rock doves." They're an introduced species that is not native to North America. Like the starling and house sparrow. :P
ReplyDeleteWOW...fall is really in the air there.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy big or little falls. They always make me feel so calm. Awesome photo!
I would be great to see those falls in the spring. We are at Sam's in ID. Falls. It was in the 40's here last night.....brrrrr and the wind is whipping everything into a tizzy.
ReplyDeleteOur leaves are starting to think about turning colors but probably will not be very pretty for a couple of weeks yet. It's one thing I like about still being here. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, I have never seen those Falls that way, they were like in your bottom picture and got all wet on the lookout from the spray....
ReplyDeleteThat's one waterfall we want to see--but haven't yet... One of these years we will get there... Even if you didn't see much water, it is truly a neat place.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
Dose Fall mean colder weather? Time to move south.
ReplyDeleteI think I need to go back to Idaho... beautiful! again, how did I miss these...
ReplyDeletehad to look it up as to why... I went north! to Tetons and Yellowsotne then Glacier... sure wish I had known about this area... rats
DeleteI love the waterfalls...even without much water.
ReplyDeleteI love waterfalls too.
ReplyDeleteThe fall tree is so pretty!
Safe travels.....
Waterless falls are still pretty to look at. I guess the falls didn't choose a FHU site... ;c)
ReplyDeleteYour photos make it look a lot better than I remember them:)
ReplyDeleteYou better hurry on south, way cooler weather is heading our way!
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed, the birds are pigeons. Your photos are lovely.
