Shoshone Falls

Twin Falls, ID  High 78  Low 60

We saw our first true colors of Fall today.

After leaving Evel and the Base Jumpers behind, we drove over to see Shoshone Falls.

P1060701The guy at the entrance to the park told us that we were going to be disappointed because there is no water coming over the Falls. We told him that was okay but we wanted to see the area anyhow. He asked us if we had an America the Beautiful Pass, and of course we do. So he let us into the park without paying the $3 fee. Since this is a city park I’m not sure if it works that way all the time or if he just felt sorry for us old folks.

We weren’t disappointed. True, there wasn’t a lot of water coming over the Falls, but it was still beautiful. You just need to use your imagination a little more.

Not sure what these birds are but there were lots of them perched on the rocks. Are they pigeons?

These falls are actually more than 50 feet higher than Niagara Falls and are often referred to as the Niagara of the West. I took the next picture from the internet and it shows what the falls look like in the Spring. We sure do want to see that.

Today we are headed to Elko, NV. I’m planning on a Walmart kind of night. Not sure what my internet access is going to be for the next four nights so if you don’t hear from me, everything is good.

  1. It looks like they just turn on the water in the Spring to clean up all the Pigeon poop.

    Must be spectacular in person.

  7. You guys sure do move around and cover a lot of ground. We hope to be doing the same in a week or so if all goes well.

The Fall is my favorite time of year now with the leaves changing colors, a nip in the air and usually low humidity.

I'd love to see the falls when they are running full blast in the spring time. Something for our bucket list.

  8. Hard to believe the water difference over the falls - it's just the opposite down here in Southern CO.

  10. Glad you enjoyed your tour of the park in spite of low water flow. Sometimes it's all in the attitude.

  11. You can see why ornithologists now call pigeons "rock doves." They're an introduced species that is not native to North America. Like the starling and house sparrow. :P

  14. Our leaves are starting to think about turning colors but probably will not be very pretty for a couple of weeks yet. It's one thing I like about still being here. :)

  16. That's one waterfall we want to see--but haven't yet... One of these years we will get there... Even if you didn't see much water, it is truly a neat place.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  21. Waterless falls are still pretty to look at. I guess the falls didn't choose a FHU site... ;c)
