We gave up keeping track of time when we retired. Both of us ditched our watches and the only reason we have a calendar is to keep track of doctor appointments. Just really don’t have a clue as to the date. Our kids are lucky if we remember their birthdays at all and if we remember ahead of time, they are just shocked.
So I guess it was no surprise that it took us three hours this morning to realize that it is May 17. 27 years ago we were married in Alexandria, VA. It was really hot that day also. In fact, that morning Jim and Billy installed a window air conditioner for us because we got married at home.
I was reading my blog from a year ago today and Jim was replacing our toilet to celebrate our big day. Today he gets to go to the dentist again. We do know how to party.
We also went out to dinner tonight. Jim asked me where I wanted to go and I told him I wanted a hamburger from Porter’s in Superior.
Our food was just as good this time as the first time we stopped here. Always a pleasure.
Jim’s hamburger:
Good LORD! thatsa burger all right... man? at least fruit and salad instead of fries... well, that counts for healthy eating... I think so.
ReplyDeleteHAhaaa well? mine was April 19th ~ 29 lovely years... I haven't known what time it was for a long time until Charlie needs me at 6am... ;)
That's fun, Sandie ... you and Jim have a wonderful relationship ... who cares about dates ... everyday is an anniversary ... right?
Well, Happy Anniversary to both of you!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! Does not matter where or how you celebrate as long as you are together.
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary, Jim and Sandie!
ReplyDeleteYou guys are party animals. Congratulations on you anniversary.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the anniversary!!! that is SOME burger, for sure!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!! Hope you found something more fun than the dentist to commemorate the day:)
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary. Romantic is what you decide it is. Best wishes for the next 27.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary, many more!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! We never make a big deal of our anniversary either, as long as we each remember it and appreciate our time together, that is all that really matters to us. Jim's hamburger is huge!

happy anniversary to you both!
ReplyDeleteMy oh my what a blue sky you guys have down there.
ReplyDeleteYeah, sometimes it's hard to remember even special days. And we do not celebrate ourselves much either. Go out for dinner, that often sums it up. In less than two weeks we'll be having our wedding anniversary. And 11 years of Canada on the same day.
I know what you mean about watches. My battery ran out a year ago and I haven't replaced it yet. As long as I have Gerry and she has her watch on, I am good to go. The cellphone also works for me with the correct time.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary to you two.
Happy Anniversary guys!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary. You two still celebrate like you are newly weds.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary. We feel that we appreciate each other every day, so we don't usually make a big deal out of an anniversary either. That hamburger really was big!!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it blissful not being tied to a calendar and watch? Happiest of anniversaries to you both!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!! You guys sure know how to celebrate. haha I don't know which is better - dentist or toilet replacing. :) But at least you did go out to dinner. That hamburger looks delish!
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary, kids. We're coming up on our 53rd in a few months. We haven't given up watches and calendars, but we aren't always sure where to find them!
ReplyDeleteAre you sure it's your anniversary? Maybe you should check the date on your watch... :cD
ReplyDeleteIt would be hard to beat toilet repair as a celebration! ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary. Great looking burger....my DH would rather have a burger like that than a steak.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! I think it's wonderful when our lives are so good and full and happy that we don't have to "look forward" and wait and wait for special days. Every day is special.
ReplyDeleteI remember being in the dentist's chair on my birthday one year, and he said it was a shame to be there on my birthday. I told him that although I hadn't planned it that way, taking care of myself is the best birthday gift I could give myself. Happy Birthday, Jim!
Still together after all these years. Life on the road surely agrees with you two.
ReplyDeleteHappy anniversary! I wish you twice that many years yet to come.
ReplyDeleteI forget to look at my calendar! I have to put alerts into my email if I want to not miss something important. :)
So many comments.
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary.
Love that profile picture. ;)
DeleteHappy Anniversary! I agree with so many other comments.....isn't it just so wonderful that everyday is special?
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary, dear friends! One step closer to heading north and cooler temperatures. It is 64 here right now and I am freezing.
ReplyDeleteHey there... happy anniversary to you! Yes, time has a way of escaping us in a way we never imagined. Amazing to think that we have now been nearly eight months into this retirement thing. Still operating like we are on vacation, but everyone tells us we will slow down after the first year. Having a ball, but looking forward to just "hanging out" this next winter! Hugs to you both!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!!! I too don't have a watch and rarely know what day it is let alone the date. It is nice to be retired and not have to worry about such trivial things.
ReplyDeleteHappy, happy anniversary, Jim and Sandie and many, many more years of bliss.
ReplyDeleteWell, Happy Anniversary! You're so right about not knowing the date. We would be lost without our atomic clock. Although to make you feel a little better, I was behind a couple in line at the supermarket one day and they made out a check. The woman turned to her husband and asked what year it was. He didn't know, so they just left it blank!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary!
