... MIDWEEK TASTE OF WINTER POSSIBLE FOR NORTHERN AND CENTRAL NEW MEXICO...
A WINTER STORM TAKING SHAPE IN THE GULF OF ALASKA THIS WEEKEND WILL MOVE INTO THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST EARLY MONDAY AND THEN DIVE RAPIDLY TO THE FOUR CORNERS BY WEDNESDAY. WITH A STEADY SLIDE SOUTH AND EAST ACROSS NEW MEXICO OVERNIGHT WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY MORNING... WEDNESDAY DAYTIME RAIN SHOWERS MAY CHANGE TO ACCUMULATING OVERNIGHT SNOW OVER NORTHERN AND NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO. SUMMITS AND HIGHER SLOPES OF THE CENTRAL MOUNTAIN CHAIN MAY ALSO PICK UP SOME SNOWFALL AS THIS SYSTEM MOVES THROUGH.
COLDER AIR BLASTING INTO NEW MEXICO WILL DROP TEMPERATURES RAPIDLY WITH WIDESPREAD FREEZES ON TAP FOR MUCH OF NORTHERN AND WESTERN PORTIONS OF THE STATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THURSDAY HIGH TEMPERATURE FORECASTS ARE IN DOUBLE DIGITS BELOW LATE OCTOBER NORMALS.
ALTHOUGH MUCH UNCERTAINTY REMAINS ON THE TRACK AND INTENSITY OF THIS WINTER STORM OVER ITS LONG TRIP FROM THE GULF OF ALASKA TO NEW MEXICO... THOSE PLANNING MIDWEEK TRAVEL OR OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES IN NORTHERN NEW MEXICO... AND OVER THE CENTRAL MOUNTAIN CHAIN SUMMITS AND HIGHER SLOPES... SHOULD STAY IN CLOSE TOUCH WITH THEIR PREFERRED WEATHER INFORMATION SOURCE FOR THE LATEST FORECASTS AND STATEMENTS ON THIS MIDWEEK WINTRY WEATHER.
Thank goodness we're not there. Our path for the route south still looks great!
ReplyDeleteJeez. .I'm in Southern NM right now (Roswell) but leaving Tuesday. I suppose it could get this far south, but it will inevitably cause winds. Ugh. thanks for the warning.

Just seems so early for a winter storm. We aren't headed that way until February.
ReplyDeleteI was just checking the 10 day forecast and Denver is supposed to get 3" on the 26th. My daughter wants me to visit her in the RV when I leave IL on Nov 1st. I'm thinking I may just head south instead. The weather makes me nervous.
ReplyDeleteHad we left as planned on October 15th we would have been in the 4 Corners area right now. Storm or no storm I would still much rather be there than sitting here at home in Ontario!!
ReplyDeleteWait a minute, I thought WE were the ones needing the winter tires?
ReplyDeleteI recall only trying to move our motorhome (that yes, we no longer have, but anyway) in the winter months, and that thing wasn't going to budge with the summer "RV" tires it had on it.
I'm thinking, "stay parked", is the best choice?
Bundle up!
Are you serious? Quick, head further south.
ReplyDeleteWOW...we were there exactly last year at this time. Hope everyone is safe!
ReplyDeleteNew Mexico is on our target list ... for next summer, with some short excursions there between now and then. But we won't go that far north. Here in SE Arizona, we are in for some welcome cooler weather, but certainly not like that!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds cold and wintery, one reason that we like coming to Mexico. We are almost guaranted great weather all winter.

YUCK!
ReplyDeleteNotice where it starts? Well right now it is bright and sunny and fairly mild.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad we aren't in that area!! I was just getting excited about fall weather and sure don't want any of those temps right now.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sending out the warning so those in the area can have a "heads up." I hope this isn't a sign of what winter is going to be like.
Brrrrr.....
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm... our plan is to head to New Mexico in about 1 1/2 weeks from now... maybe we will be staying in the south end!
ReplyDeleteWe have been through NM on previous years but have missed the bad weather. Right now we are in Kanab heading for the Flagstaff area on Wednesday and then down to Goodyear for the winter in early November. Looks like it will be HOT for awhile though in Goodyear.
