Jim will be home tomorrow!!! This is the only picture he sent me. Steve doing all the hard work climbing trees to look for deer.
They did not get a buck or a turkey. Saw a few does but Jim had a buck tag. He and Steve had a fantastic time just being out in the woods together. I do think he missed me and will be glad to get home.
I’ve kept busy doing laundry and taking care of the girls. Dianna came to rescue me on Monday and we went to lunch at Native New Yorker. Good food.
Then we went to see Captain Phillips. Really a good movie and so intense. Tom Hanks is and always has been one of my favorite actors. But the guy who played the Somalia leader was incredible especially since he had never acted before.
Played cribbage Monday night and then tonight our park had a potluck dinner. I don’t often go but decided the potluck sounded better than the hot dog I had planned. Ginny made an apple pie and I made sure I got a nice big piece that I brought home with me to enjoy.
Peg and John arrived yesterday. They are in the park model right across from us. John is the 90 year old who loves to go fishing with Jim. They have decided that they are going to put the park model up for sale because the journey down here is just too much for them anymore. Makes me sad. But it is truly the circle of life.
Never acquired a taste for venison so no deer meat wouldn't make me sad. Glad Jim had a good time 'out in the woods'. I'd rather have some of his fish. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you didn't let his time away slow you down any either...
The only venison I had was a filet steak and it was out of this world.
ReplyDeleteSorry you are losing your buddies across the road.
Glad Jim and Steve had had a good time.. I'll bet he does miss you!!!!! But it sounds like you have had a good week. Too bad about your neighbors... It is truly a circle of life....
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Betsy
So nice that Jim and Steve got to spend some quality time together. No deer would not hurt my feelings either, but a turkey would be nice. Never did learn to appreciate venison.
ReplyDeleteAwwww how sweet you two are ... pie? oh, pie. I remember you well..
ReplyDeleteSee...your week flew by. Pot luck suppers are the best! And homemade apple pie...warmed up with ice cream is...is so good.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear Jim didn't get a deer, last year with his tag and a couple of friends my son Andy got three, we paid to have one processed and Andy and I strung up the other two in my shed and butchered the here at home. HUnting is work, especially when you are like me and I didn't even get to shot one. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna...
ReplyDeleteToo bad they did now get what they went for but am sure they had an awesome time.
ReplyDeleteWhen I had my restaurant I feed large crews of hunters an early lunch for years. And was given quite a bit of venison, moose and turkey to enjoy at home. A very special treat for us.
I am sure Jim is having the time of his life even if he doesn't get to shoot anything.
ReplyDeleteGood decision on the pot luck. Hot dogs make me think too much of 'beaks and feet". Unless they're "all beef" or some such thing.
ReplyDeleteThe boys had a good time. That's all that counts. Some of the best stories I've ever heard were "hunting stories", even if the hunters come back empty handed.
Getting to spend some quality time with each other tramping around in the woods is probably way better than getting game anyway. "I’m So Excited" - in my younger days these where my favorite words from my woman :-)
ReplyDeleteSounds like the hunting trip was both good for Jim and his son as well as the deer and turkeys - a win, win all around.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute picture! Glad they had a nice time. My son hunts with his son & that is their one on one time. Know you are glad he is home!
ReplyDeleteA bad fishing or hunting is always better than a good day at work is my motto. Sounds like they had a good time even though they didn't get any game. Is the buck tag good for any length of time?
ReplyDeleteYeah, the deer live on. Sorry, I know the kids need that meat. Maybe we can do a telethon.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoyed hunting even if I did not fill my tags. Filling them was always better as I love venison:)
ReplyDeleteHopefully Jim doesn't hit a deer with the truck on the way home. That would be rubbing a little salt in the wound... ;c)
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine me eating any Bambi steaks, I think I'll stick to good, nutritious food...Big Macs! :cD
Sounds like the bonding with father and son was the successful part of the hunting trip.
ReplyDeleteSo glad your man is coming back to you. Of coure he missed you. You're a gem, and he knows it. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love Tom Hanks, too, and already have my eye on streaming it. I think I've seen every one of his movies. And, in interviews, he seems like such a nice guy.
Hi... we always enjoy your blog posts, though I don't comment often. Good to read about things, and I'm sure you and Jim are glad to be back together again :). Be seeing you soon!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting on my blog. My grand daughter posted! Sure hope I get more followers and the family will enjoy seeing my posts even if they don't post a comment.
