Computers – I Really Do Not Like Them But I Can’t Seem To Live Without Them

Helena, MT  High  84    Low  56

Our computers got infected with a malicious malware – have no idea how. I have been without a computer since last Thursday and I may never get caught up with everybody. Trying to find a computer repair person in Helena has not been easy but yesterday we hit the jackpot.

Hopefully we’ll have our computers back tomorrow and I can get back on track with everything. I was getting worried because I had some bills to pay and I do everything on line. Jim dug my old computer out for me and was able to get it running long enough for me to make this short post.

See ya later.

  1. We sure have become reliant on computers, haven't we? Hope yours is fixed soon.

  2. Computers are a blessing, and yes, a curse at the same time.

  3. Oh oh ... that isn't fun at all. It's hard to get caught up once you get behind. I know. I tried. So, for now I'm just going forward

  4. Malware is a menace. Your computers should come back from the hospital all cured and ready for work.

  6. Well that certainly sucks. Sorry to hear it. Just got a note from a cousin on the Book of Face that she had been hacked. Gah! I'm having bad thoughts.
Hope all is better when you get your machine back. I'd go a bit stir crazy without one.

  8. We also are dependent on our computers. Between us we have two laptops, one iPad and two iPhones. We can always get online but we can't always get to the software we need. If Dave's computer bit the dust we'd have to install his financial app on my computer but the data would then be available from a backup. Who knew you needed a backup plan as well as backed up data?

  9. I know just what you mean - it's a love-hate relationship with something that takes way too much of our time and our life. The only saving grace is the wonderful people you keep in contact with. I think I'm finally unhooked from TV, but I may change my mind - that's another time waster with no saving grace!

  10. Passed by Helena last Saturday heading south to Moab. Did you hear me...I yelled out the window..."hello Sandie, Jim, Scooter, and Skittlez!"

Glad you are all ok...computers are VERY frustrating!

  11. I am completely lost without my computer !! It's not only my lines of communication but it's also my evenings entertainment as I do jigsaw puzzles online as well as watch some TV shows.

  12. I feel your pain as we are now on the road and I have seriously injured my computer on the first night (had a senior bout of stupid) and hopefully it is not fatal. Heading to Best Buy today to see if it can be fixed or at least the hard drive info recovered.

  13. We have had to depend on Best Buy for computer service a few times. They are reliable, I guess, but expensive, and they require a lot of time --- separation anxiety for sure.

  14. Yikes! I hope the computer comes back "healed" and doesn't cause a big hit in the wallet.

Now Rick Doyle has posted that Windows XP is kaput as of next April and open to big trouble. I'm been putting off buying another laptop (and desktop) because of the money and learning Windows 8.

  15. Good luck! I hope it comes back all fixed and running great.

You know what? Honestly, next time I need a new laptop, I'm going with an Apple. I NEVER hear Apple people complain about their computers, in fact, they always RAVE about them.

I learned today, from an Apple person, that you might pay more for the machine, but they go on forever, no viruses, and I'm not sure, but I'll bet they aren't hacked like ours' are, and the apps for them are so cheap. He said once you pay for the machine, you have tons of cheap applications you can buy, and you can also download Microsoft 7 or 8 that runs on Apple computers.

Really. I love my HP now that it's working again, but I'm going to bite the bullet next time and switch.

  16. I REALLY hate to be the one to say this. I've had Macs since the early 90s. I started on them in Nortel which was the biggest user of Mac besides Apple. I used to help Rich with his business at night. Our first was a CXII and a laser printer--small screen - cost $10K, at the time (on the business).

When we started our new business, II ran the whole business from a Mac lap top. I have a Retina, now. I have never encountered a virus. They do last for a long time even with very heavy use.

I had a problem "once" - my fault. I had dropped my first lap top. Called Apple Care, they sent a DSL truck took the computer and returned it the next day. Their service is still excellent with Applecare--no wait, and they will answer any question you throw at them. I start putting money away as soon as I buy one in preparation for the next one several years down the road (usually just because I want one). :)

One reason I like Apple is that they are made for people who don't know anything about computers (that would be me) - idiot proof.

  17. We fell behind in reading blogs when our computers went on the fritz so we are a week behind, we feel your pain.

  18. I can sympathize with you. My computer has been a PITA lately. For the moment, it is up and running.

  19. I have been down that road as well. We get so used to having them that when they don't work we are really at a loss. I hope everything gets fixed OK.
