I continue to be very impressed with the staff and the facility at Oasis Hospital.
After getting registered they took Jim back to prep him for his surgery. He’s all hooked up and ready to go.
Anybody have any idea why the nurse put this bag on Jim’s foot?
I went up to see him this morning. It’s about an 85 mile drive round trip so I’m getting lots of practice driving the truck. He is doing better today (his stomach has settled down) but the pain is worse which is to be expected for the second day. He was able to walk to the door yesterday afternoon and this morning he went out the door and down the hall almost to the end and back. Rolling over to get out of bed and standing up or sitting down is tough so tomorrow will be better.
There is a very strong probability that on Friday they will be moving Jim to a rehab facility. It looks even nicer than the hospital. They are worried about the steps into the RV and also the steps up to the bathroom and bedroom. At rehab they will concentrate on stairs and being able to get out of bed and that’s a good thing. The best part is, the facility is in Mesa which is a whole lot closer.
You’ve all experienced hospital food I’m sure. Once again this place is so NOT like a regular hospital. The food is delicious. Jim had a hamburger for lunch today on a ciabatta bun. He shared with me and it was delicious. Tonight he’s having a New York Strip steak. He said his scrambled eggs were perfect this morning and the bacon was excellent. Even the toast is definitely not Wonder Bread. I told him not to get to used to eating like this.
Oh, about those BLTs – Jim cannot Bend, Lift, or Twist (BLT) for a month.
He's going to get so spoiled! He'll have you waiting on him and serving him food just like the hospital.

ReplyDeleteGlad they're taking such good care of Jim. I was thinking what Carol said - maybe he'll get an edible BLT while he's there - those are always good. It's nice that he is getting yummy food while he's laid up. Take care and we'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

ReplyDeleteBeing solo, I think I'd have to move to the Escapees Care Center for that if it were me. He is lucky to have you around to do for him.
I was hoping you'd post today. Sounds like a good recovery is going on. After my surgery the getting out of bed and back in was hard for a while. Good for Jim for walking - that seems to help with getting the systems in the body working better. When I started walking, I started feeling better.
ReplyDeleteGlad the food is really good, if Jim has an appetite it will make each day a lot better. I think bad hospital food is a thing of the past.

They may be quarantining his foot. Does he have a toenail fungus or an open sore on his foot? Some surgeries are done in what they call "laminar flow rooms", and the surgical team all wear laminar flow suits, which protect the patient from infection. If he has a sore, they might be blocking incoming germs, and vice versa if he has a toenail fungus, in which case they would be protecting the surgical wound from spores floating in the air.

Yay! Successful surgeries are a blessing, and not even in disguise. I noticed the menu when Suzy was in the hospital, and it looked like a wonderful setup. However, her own food included warm broth, sugar free Jell-O, and a vial of vile-tasting protein! Here at home this week, she's drinking three protein shakes a day, and next week will be allowed one half a scrambled egg every day, if she can eat that much!

Maybe under the bag there was a toe-tag, just in case!

I have a toenail fungus so I was was going to suggest either that or he needed a pedicure but someone beat me to it. :)
ReplyDeleteI think hospitals have finally realized that decent food helps the recovery process. I'm glad Jim is getting some. Be sure you tell staff you ate part of the sandwich. Sometimes the are measuring intake and output without telling you they are doing so.
Glad to hear things are coming along. Back surgeries aren't for sissies, it is tough stuff. Looks like a great facility. Tell him to hang in there it will get better. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a nice place to get surgery & recover in. Amazing on the floors, I never knew they recycled mirrors like that. I hope he continues to heal & follows protocol.
