SHUNPIKING

Thanks to Toni - I now know that traveling the backroads instead of interstates is called Shunpiking. Isn't that a neat word?

It originally meant to shun or avoid turnpikes so you wouldn't have to pay the tolls. It's expanded it's meaning to include those of us who wander backroads.

  1. We shunpiked all the way across the country on Hwy. 50 last spring. Didn't know about that great word for it, though.
