Soaring with Sidney

Las Vegas, NV  High 97  Low 74

P1080169

Guess what we did yesterday.

Welcome to the High Roller. The highest Ferris wheel in the world.

P1080261

The doors open on both sides and you enter or exit while in motion.

P1080147

I had to conquer my extreme fear of Ferris wheels in order to get on this thing. I don’t have a fear of heights, just Ferris wheels. I get sick just watching one on TV. But Clark mentioned in his post on this ride that the cars don’t swing. So I informed my stomach we were going to do this and I was not going to embarrass everyone by getting sick. I conquered!!

Key went along with us for the ride..

P1080148

Sidney was really excited about being able to soar above the crowds. Look at that view of the Strip.

P1080177

The High Roller is not like an amusement park ride. It takes 30 minutes to make the trip so you are moving very slowly. The views are incredible so I’m just going to post a few of the 125 pictures Jim took.

That’s our truck, parked next to the colorful bus by the tree on the right.

P1080152

This is another view of our truck.

P1080173

P1080168

P1080172

The fountains at the Bellagio.

P1080214

P1080215

The monorail.

P1080245

Coming in for our landing.

Once I overcame my fears, the ride is very relaxing with amazing views in all directions. The next time (and there will be a next time) will be at night so we can see all the lights.

  2. You couldn't pay me enough money to get on that thing! But I will say the photos are awesome.

  3. Nice, been there many times but did not do that:)

  4. That is totally awesome. I seem to think the highest "thing" there was at the time we were last in Vegas was the "Stratosphere". The highest Ferris Wheel we ever been on was the "Riesen Rad" in Vienna. It's big and old, but very cool. Good for you for sucking it up and doing it.

  5. That is so cool! I should have done that. I can't believe you brought Sidney along! Very thoughtful. And you got to see the fountains. What time of day was it?

  7. I will refrain from trying to conquer my fears of ferris wheels and great heights. I would like to conquer my fear of water but just never have the chance. I need a friend with a rowboat!

  9. YOU went on that thing?? Not sure I'd want to but I really have to pat you on the back for going and sharing your photos. There has to be one brave person in the group because it sure wouldn't be me. Good job!

  13. OMIGAWD, Sandi! I don't do heights or rides. I give you credit. I couldn't have talked myself into it! And, forget roller coasters...don't know how anyone tolerates them. Susan went out on the sky walk over the GC when we were in Las Vegas. I told her I'd be happy to wait for her, and "No, I don't want a turn." LOL

  15. Next time we're there I'll send Bill. We used to have our Christmas party's for work in that one that goes around and I remember one person that stayed by the door the whole time.

  16. I don't do ferris wheels or heights, but think that I could possibly do that one, especially since you managed it.

  17. We did the one in London, called the Eye. You certainly do get a great view and plenty of time to get the perfect picture.

  18. Hello There, We just got home from a great week--which was a terrific 'healing' experience for me --as I recover from gallbladder surgery followed by that wicked infection... You'll have to check out my blog post today (if you haven't done so yet).

Happy Memorial Day to you and yours... Let's never forget those men and women (past and present) who were/are in the Armed Forces and have done so much to give us the FREEDOM we have today. God Bless ALL of them and God Bless the USA.

Gorgeous views from 'up there'... AND you are right--it would be gorgeous seeing the night lights.. Hope you do get to go back!
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  20. I love ferris wheels and roller coasters, so I'd surely be game for that ride. Vegas at night should be interesting.

  21. You go girl!!! I am VERY afraid of heights but I have beaten most of it & will do sky trams now! I think I could do that ferris wheel. Great views!

  22. PUT ME ON IT!!! How much did it cost? Wow.

  23. I don't do ferris wheels (or heights) either but I did do the London Eye which is similar to this one. I did not look down but it was great looking out. I'm glad you braved it and I assure the rest of your commenters that this is NOTHING like riding a ferris wheel. You feel very safe in these pods.

  24. That Ferris wheel ride is something I'd love to do !!

But I missed something and can't imagine how ?? Sidney has been in your last couple of posts - but somehow I missed how he came to be ??

  25. Hi there... glad you had such a good time in Las Vegas. We can't offer you that kind of entertainment here in our little campground, but we do promise big smiles and hugs! Let us know when to look for you! Tom has fishing questions for Jim, too, and we will enjoy good visits together! Hugs, D & T
