Tempe, AZ High 84 Low 56
We really needed to do something different today. Talk about being in a rut.
So we headed off to Tempe to the Fifth Annual Guitar Show.
I was surprised at the number of people who showed up as well as all the vendors.
There were some beautiful guitars – several hand made.
Jim has an acoustic guitar and is trying to relearn how to play. Most of these were electric guitars and if we had lots of money I would have found one to buy for him.
They had several bands playing rock and blues as well as a couple of food vendors. We shared a steak sandwich and fries from this place.
There was a wonderful collection of “older” rockers as well as the younger set.
Some came dressed for a hot spring day.
Others enjoyed rockin’ to the blues.
Isn’t this a beautiful bass?
We did make one other purchase besides lunch. We bought a guitar hanger. If you look closely, you can see how these guitars are hung.
Saw this beautiful Model A as we were leaving. I think there was a classic car show somewhere in the area.
I also took a picture of this gorgeous tree that is in bloom.
Close up of the tree.
We had a great time and it was wonderful to get out and do something really different.
I looked for a guitar holder, couldn't find one so I made one myself, and now everywhere I go I keep seeing guitar holders. Mine is crappy because I suck at woodwork.
ReplyDeleteDo you know what kind of tree that is? The flowers remind me of fuschia, although as far as I know that is a bush rather than a tree.
ReplyDeleteI love acoustic instruments - the electric models were a novelty when they first came out, but I soon tired of them. You can "feel" the life in acoustic and unplugged instruments, I think.
I think the name of that tree is a bottle brush.
ReplyDeleteYep I agree, a bottle brush tree. Becki
ReplyDeleteAnd to think I wasted all those years learning to play the piano... ;c)
ReplyDeleteThose little fairs and and vendors sure bring out the crowds. They are a lot of fun too. You just never know what you're going to see. It does make for an interesting day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat way to spend a few hours. Be sure to show us a photo of Jim's guitar on the wall.
ReplyDeleteWell, that was sure something fun to do!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun way to spend the day Sandy and get you out of your rut.
ReplyDeleteThere will never be music quite like the music we grew up with! What a treat and what a great way to get out and about!
ReplyDeleteA guitar show is not anything I'd even think about, but then I never played a guitar.
ReplyDeleteLove going to these local functions always a fun excursion checking things out.
ReplyDeleteDid you wear you poodle skirt and saddle shoes to the event like others?
ReplyDeleteThat guitar show sure looked like fun. Something I know I would enjoy.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous guitars--some people are incredibly talented! I hope Jim continues to renew his guitar-playing skills...maybe one of these days soon folks could sing around the campfire accompanied by Jim!
ReplyDeleteWell, you sure picked a good place to get out of your rut, Sandie! My son loves guitars and he has quite a few hanging on his walls. They make excellent pieces of art. Glad you had a good time. Very interesting post - I could almost hear the music when I saw the couple dancing.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a very groovy time.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a great day. I still love the old rock and roll music and always enjoy a fair like this one. Next time record the music and include it in the blog.
ReplyDeleteDifferent is good. We could all use some different every now and then. Of course, for some people my age Rock N Roll is part of every day. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you guys hit the jackpot for a different and exciting day!!! :-) Glad you enjoyed and had fun!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had lots of fun! Send some of the sun rays towards Montana, please! We are bound for a freeze.....
ReplyDeleteGreat day for you two. Tell Jim the next time we see you guys that we want him to play the guitar....rock & roll, of course and you, my friend need to have your saddle oxfords and big red skirt. I'll bring a tambourine and John will bring a drum.
ReplyDeleteha! I like what Nan said... so ditto... and what a fun time. I love rock and roll ... you know!? I didn't know this was done by Joan Jett... I don't know much about that group but LUV this song...
