ICE CREAM, ICE CREAM, WE ALL DON’T SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM

bananasplit-main_full

Judy, I knew you and I would be good friends. Give me a big bowl of buttered popcorn and I’m the happiest camper ever. But I do think we are in the minority.

Just kind of an explanation: I stated that I don’t care for ice cream and I know some of you can’t understand how anyone could not like ice cream. I don’t particularly care for most dairy. I do NOT eat cheese – ever. (Well, twice to be really! polite.) I don’t drink milk, don’t like whipped cream – give me the Cool Whip any day. I occasionally eat eggs but they don’t rank high on my list of favorites. And ice cream is okay once in awhile. What I do like is when Jim gets a vanilla cone and gives me the very last bite of cone that has some of the ice cream melted in it. Or a little ice cream in a root beer float with lots of root beer.

grilled cheese

I have no idea where these aversions came from. I grew up in a family who’s idea of a great meal was a toasted cheese sandwich with a big glass of milk. And for dessert a trip to Dairy Queen for an ice cream cone. So I would have a toasted peanut butter sandwich and a glass of kool-aid or water. What can I say? Jim tells me I’m unique.

  1. Well I suppose UNIQUE is one way we can describe you...hehe
I LOVE ice cream. Some of my best memories of growing up is my dad getting out the gallon of ice cream, and we all digging in. We had the best talks over ice cream.

  2. I really like ice cream too. But it is one of the things I gave up to lose weight, and now am discovering that dairy is really not good for us. Milk is good for calfs not people!

  3. I like ice cream in warm weather, but rarely eat it at other times of the year. I love eggs but not milk, although I can tolerate it on cereal and used in cooking, but drink a glass of milk? Never. I don't eat cheese except when it's cooked in something, grated and spread over baked potatos and other veggies, on pizza or pasta, etc. I don't know where I get my picky ways either - there was a time in my life when I would ask for pizza without cheese! By the way, I'm going through a lot of ice cream during our heat wave!

  4. Whoever said we needed to drink milk must have been a dairy farmer. They are the only ones who benefit from cow's milk. We do partake in Almond milk and like it so much better. John used to be a cheese glutton. After reading forks over knives, he did not hesitate to eliminate all cows milk from his diet.

  5. Well, despite the dairy industry's best efforts, your aversion is doing you a big favor. Carry on!

  6. Unique, weird, different ... what's the word? However, the most important thing is to be able to enjoy what we like. I think you do a good job of that!!! So have it whatever way you like.

  7. Those aversions sound healthy:) On the other hand we had some great ice cream today at, of all places, a fish market!

  8. Have you ever been tested for a dairy allergy? Most of us who grew up not liking milk are allergic, or at least lactose intolerant. Why would we like food that makes us sick? On the other hand, I still love cheese. But, I've been told that many people crave what they are allergic to. Weird? Yes, I am thank you very much.

  11. My guess is you are at least slightly (maybe more) lactose intolerant. Sometimes when people don't like dairy products its because it makes them uncomfortable afterward so as they grow up they avoid it and just don't like it. Both my sons are this way. When my youngest was little we felt like we were forcing him to drink his milk when we talked with his pediatrician he decided that he was indeed lactose intolerant and you won't find him eating ice cream though he will eat some cheese. The older one got worse as he got older, he still eats ice cream once in awhile, it makes him slightly sick every time now but he likes it so much that he says its worth the discomfort once in awhile. I grew up in a DQ and luckily it wasn't a problem for me.

  12. You are just very selective in what you choose to enjoy. I'm with you, if ice cream disappeared off the face of the earth, I wouldn't miss it and probably wouldn't even notice.

But don't take away my Diet Coke or I would be screaming. :cO

  15. We are all different and we all like different things so you're no more unique than me. I like ice cream and enjoy having one every so often but since we started motorhoming almost 5 years ago, we have only once had a tub of ice cream in our freezer and that was a Ben and Jerry's or Häagen-Dazs, don't remember which but it was a small tub and I got it only because we had never had one before. Now cheese is another story, we love cheese! I am glad that I am allergic to flour/wheat products and not cheese.

    Enjoy your popcorn!

  18. If I didn't like ice cream, I wouldn't be fat... well, no not entirely because I also like pie a lot.

I've never met anyone who doesn't like ice cream... and I'm old! You don't like ice cream?! man?

    sounds communistic to me

  19. Age has changed likes and dislikes. Eggs for one. I can eat eggs scrambled or in an Egg McMuffin but not fried eggs. It might be the look of the egg. Ice cream will always be at the top of my list, the very top of the list. The fact that vanilla is my 1st choice surprises many.

  20. Ice cream gets only one thumb up from me...but for chocolate covered peanut M & M's I'll walk across a bed of burning coals.

Hope to see you in AZ this coming winter. We won't be in Mesa but have found a fine park in Queen Creek. We didn't get nearly enough time to see you this past winter!

  21. Oooh being from Wisconsin I just HAVE to eat dairy, ya know? But I do get kinda stuffed up after eating anything dairy or drinking milk.

We found a really really good ice cream shop just out side of the park entrance last night. Sigh. Guess what we did? Yup.. even their "single scoop" was HUGE!
