UPDATE

I’m really sorry but I just haven’t felt like blogging this last week. We have been in “wait to hear something/anything” mode and I don’t handle it real well.

However a decision was finally made today. Jim will be having surgery Friday morning at Shea Hospital. The doctor said the surgery lasts about three hours and Jim will be in the hospital for four days.

I am so relieved that we finally have a definite plan to follow. They did say that if they were to find more cancer once they go in he might still have to have radiation, but at this point they really don’t expect that to happen.

And that’s all I know at this point. We went to visit Aunt Happy and found out that she had lost one kidney to cancer and also part of her lung. She said her lung surgery wasn’t all that bad and she was back playing bridge in two weeks. So that made Jim feel better.

Our park is almost empty as of today. Ginny and Mickey are still here for a few more weeks and are just across the street so if I need anything they are available to help me. It’s in the 90’s and will be for the foreseeable future. But it’s rainy and cold up in Montana so I’m happy to be here in the warmth with no bugs to speak of. Nice breeze in the evenings so sitting outside with our new patio set is just wonderful.

Thanks again to all of you.

  3. I've been waiting, anxiously, to hear from you. I think the waiting is the worst part and that will soon be over. I've known two or three people who have had surgery who didn't seem to have a really lengthy recovery. That's what I'm hoping for Jim. You both must be exhausted.

I'm glad you have friends to be there with you until it's over and Jim is on his way to recovery.

I'm sorry you had to go through this, but I'm hoping that soon we will once again be wondering where the Dixons are.

Best of luck to Jim and you on Friday. You take care of yourself--that's important not only for yourself, but for Jim, too. Love.

  6. In the summertime, Scottsdale goes back to having friendly folks and a smaller town atmosphere. (Well, as small as a big town can be, anyway) You couldn't be in a nicer place for this. Besides, the Mayo Clnic there is the best!

  7. Waiting is so hard. Glad you now have a date and a plan. And how nice there are friends close by to be there for you. We continue to keep you in our prayers especially this Friday. Remember Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me" He will be your strength and your comfort. :)

  8. There will be lots of folks out there thinking of both of you this week. All you'll have to do is dangle a fishing pole in front of Jim after the surgery and I'm sure it'll give him the incentive to get up and around pretty quick.

Glad the plan is finally forming. The waiting is the hard part.

  9. For sure, the 'waiting,' whether for news or a procedure has to be the hardest part. Always a relief to just get on with things & get things done. All the best from the Bayfield Bunch.

  10. Yes, finally having an action plan is actually a relief. The waiting is brutal; the mind games kick in and just make one wacky. Been there, done that. So glad you have passed through that stage. Keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers!

  20. We will add our prayers for a good outcome on Friday - it always helps knowing another family member has been through something that you are facing, doesn't it? God bless.

  21. I can understand your feelings as you wait to learn "the plan". When I went through cancer 16 years ago, I just wanted to get on with it and get through it and get back to "normal". Knowing the plan gives you a map and a way to try and reach the goal. We'll all be out here in blog land, hoping for the best on Friday.

  23. I was wondering where you got to. The waiting part can be the worst.
Let's hope the outcome on Friday is a good one.

  24. If Aunt Happy can do it, Jim can do it. And so can you. You just need some "fidget" activities to help distract you. :)

Sending lots of positive thoughts your way.

  28. Happy May Day......!!!!!
May Baskets were on my adgenda today.....I was so shocked when stopping at the store this morning and everyone acted as though I was from another planet, when I asked if they had any May baskets.......well, I got some marked down Easter Baskets and some fresh flowers (the baskets were too big to fill) so I just put one, long stemmed, fresh flower into each one and gave each person from my Red Hats Chapter one (we have breakfast together on Tues in a GREAT BIG BASKET and suggested they put in a potted plant. They didn't seem to be too impressed (suprised me!!) especially being they are all around my age (OLD). Anyway, I had fun with it and then I came home and made up two bouquets of fresh flowers in two of the remaining baskets and delivered them to our two son's families for ...you guessed it ...."MAY DAY" Love, Carol

  29. Dave had a lobe of his lung removed because of a cancerous spot about six years ago. They got it all and he didn't need to haveradiation or chemotherapy. He is still cancer free, praise God!

  30. We are glad that things are being done now instead of the guessing game. I thought the MAY DAY adventure might cheer you up and remembering how goofy I can be.. although, I think everyone else is goofy...(NOT REMEMBERING WHAT MAY DAY BASKETS ARE ALL ABOUT) how goofy can one get?
Our prayers are with both of you and we will see you in June when you get back here.
    Love you both !!!!

  32. I also had my Physical Therapy for my hip this morning and it went well...a lot better than I anticipatedand a whole lot easier than the three injections I had last week in the groin area under the new hip joint....pretty painful but it was helpful and if I keep stretching, like I have been...it should really help. I have no restrictions on exercise....only lifting...which caused the problem to begin with..so exercise here I come!!!! "MY SHOES,(NOT BOOTS) ARE MADE FOR WALKING AND THAT'S JUST WHAT" THEY'LL DO We all had fun at Lewistown at the RED HATS CONVERGENCE this past week-end

  33. Good to hear there is finally a plan, I agree waiting is the hardest part. Once you know what your dealing with and a direction to go it is much easier to plan and to set your thinking in the tight direction.

  34. Good to hear that you have a plan! Good luck John with your surgery on Friday. Ray and I know how hard waiting is. Ray's first visit at the pain clinic is this afternoon so hopefully they will come up with a plan to help his back pain as the two back surgeries in one year have not alleviated it. House has an offer on it .... we responded with another so we shall see!
