MORE ON OUR NEW HOME

Margie and Donna asked last night about towing the boat behind the fifth wheel. The states on both coasts definitely do not allow this kind of towing. Also the states in the middle part of the country restrict the length you can be. I have a map that shows all of the lengths allowed in each state. We will be about 70’ long.

However, out here in the wide open spaces of the Wild Wild West the length is usually 65’ or 70’ and here in Montana it is 75’. When we had our Hitchhiker we were 72’ long. This is what we looked like then and we will look pretty much the same now.

We can tow from Montana through Idaho, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming and back to Montana. You will see quite a few rigs looking like ours here in Montana because so many of the guys are fishermen.

It does get quite interesting at times when you’re trying to get into a station to get fuel. Also, you have to unhitch the boat when you get to a campground before you can get into a spot. Then you have to figure out where to park the boat. Jim knows that this is not something I really like to do and I will not drive the truck with the boat in tow. But he is comfortable with it.

Here are a couple of pictures of the inside of the Montana. Jim is in the process of putting down a new kitchen floor which I think will really help. The old floor was in pretty bad shape so we just ripped it out.

Not the best pictures but gives you some idea. The floor is covered by rugs in these pictures but here’s a little piece of the linoleum that we’re getting rid of.

When Jim finishes the new floor, I’ll post a picture of it.

  1. Your interior layout looks identical to the Rockwood 5th wheel we had when we first started Snow Birding back in the fall of 06. Truck is almost identical too, especially in color. Ours was gas though & a GMC Sierra. Sure must take some getting used to having a boat on the back. For sure I would want a camera on the back of the fiver.

  6. Nice looking rig, it's beautiful inside. Looks like you should have lots of places to be able to tow your boat too.

  9. Looks very livable; I hate floor plans where the comfy chairs don't face the TV and where you can't work in the kitchen. Thanks for telling us what states you can double tow through to come to Arizona for the winter; I feel better now. :)

  10. Really neat and the new floor will make it that much nicer! We understand about the double bottom pulling and many states that don't like that.

  11. You new rig looks beautiful inside. I was thinking like Sue - Lucy's "Long, Long Trailer" movie! Don't think I would want to pull that set-up but I guess it's all in getting used to it. Good for you for doing what you want.

  12. I've seen people pulling a ski-do behind a 5th wheel in TN, but I didn't think it was legal. It will be nice to get that new floor installed. How are Scooter and Skittz going to like their new home?

  13. Really nice! And so much room. You guys are going to be so comfortable, but as much as I'd love having a fifth wheel and a boat, there's no way I'd drive the truck with them either.

  14. Love the interior! Must be hard backing up, though.... I'm sure he can leave the boat somewhere if you want to go to CA, OR or WA. The states in the east I couldn't care less about...

  15. Isn't it the hardest thing to take pics inside a trailer...there is just not room to get a good shot...I know you can trip up in Az...see lots of it here.

  17. Too funny. I get a Class A Toy Hauler so I DON'T have to tow...and you guys are now double towing. My nerves would not be able to handle it !!

But those 5ers sure are spacious !
