And We’re Off

Wikieup, AZ   High 76  Low 60

First the great news. Jim’s cancer scan came back negative. We are good to go for another six months.

We met up with Paula for lunch to say so long and then met up with Dianna for dinner on Tuesday night to say bye. It’s really exciting to get on the road but still hard to say those good-byes. Thank goodness they are just temporary.

Monday we spent most of the day moving stuff from the fiver to the Bungalow. We had stripped the bed in the fiver and had taken all the sheets and blankets to the laundromat early Monday morning. Got the bed put back together and started moving things. Jim went up into the bedroom to grab some clothes and discovered that we had a very sick Skittlez. She had thrown up all over the freshly made bed. It had soaked all the way through to the mattress cover. So we stripped everything off and headed back to the laundromat to rewash all the sheets, blankets, and quilt.

Jim went home to check on Skittlez and discovered she had vomited behind his chair a couple of times. Got that cleaned up and we could tell she was not feeling good. She was restless, shivering and yet lethargic and her eyes were so sad. She also would not eat anything which is just unheard of for her. She was very thirsty and drank some water. Well, of course, that didn’t stay down and we had several more messes to clean up. We restricted her water intake as much as we could while making sure she didn’t get too dehydrated. She finally settled down for the night on a quilt on the floor.  We checked on her several times during the night and she didn’t even want to raise her head to look at us.

Then about 3:30 in the morning, Scooter had a seizure. She hasn’t had one for months and I had almost forgotten about them. It lasted for about five minutes (even though it felt like hours) with her moaning and we weren’t able to rouse her from it. Also, during the episode she pooped in the bed. Remember those really clean sheets? Guess who had to do laundry again.

When she finally comes out of the seizure she is really lost for about another ten minutes and then everything is back to normal. At this point, Jim gave up and got up. I tried to doze for awhile longer but got up about 4:45. We were exhausted.

When we left for the doctor’s office, Scooter was fine but Skitz was still not doing very good and we were going to take her to the vet when we got back. We were gone about three hours (it takes us almost an hour to get to the doctor’s office) and when we walked through the door, Skitz was right there to greet us and wanted a treat. She was starved.

I have Yoda ears

We figured out that it was the new pill that the vet had given us for her liver. I checked it out on the internet and it had absolutely no side effects in dogs. Well she sure proved them wrong. We stopped giving her the pill and she is just fine. Back to her normal weird self.

With all that excitement we weren’t sure we were going to be ready to leave town, but this morning about 10:30 we were hitched up and ready to go. We would have been really excited except we were so tired we didn’t have the energy to get excited.

Welcome to Wikieup

wikieup

We are currently at Dazzo’s Restaurant and RV Park in Wikieup, AZ. About half way to Las Vegas. This is a Passport America park for $10, We have a pull through site so we didn’t have to unhitch the truck. Hopefully tonight we can get some sleep.

Across the highway from the RV Park is the Sleeping Maiden. Can you see her?

Maybe this will help.

The wind has arrived and we are rockin’. Sure glad we’re off the road for the night.

  7. Great news re Jim.

As to your girls....I totally relate having just done 6 loads to clean the bedding.

Yes they are good for now but who knows for how long. Such is the life us doxie parents live. Hugs to the four of you.

  21. Glad you're on the road but what an awful time you had before. I can't imagine washing blankets and sheets that many times in less than 24 hours. Having sick "kids" must have been stressful too for both of you. Glad they are better. Hopefully, you'll be able to enjoy the rest of your trip ... well, once the wind goes away.

Hopefully the dogs will start doing better and you can enjoy them again as you head north.

What route will you be taking as you head up to your summer retreat? We are in the Bryce Canyon area until next Wednesday. If you are in the area let us know and maybe we can meet for lunch or dinner.

  27. Well, somebody posted an ugly comment here. DELETE!
Good that Jim is doing so well. Skittles got the wrong pills it seems. We are extremely cautious with giving Molly any drugs. When doggies get old they need us more than ever. It would be impossible to travel with Molly at this time. She needs to have a quiet life towards the end. She actually caught a squirrel today. Well done!
