Granddad Waggoner

Roanoke, VA

DSCN0298

Before Jim’s hair turned gray, he was a redhead. In fact, of the six siblings, he was the only redhead. His Granddad Waggoner used to tease him unmercifully about being the red-headed milkman’s son. It just so happened that their milkman (remember them) was a redhead.

When Jim went to his granddad’s funeral, he saw his Mom and Grandma looking at a photo album. In the album was a hunk of red hair. Jim asked who’s that was and his Grandma told him it was his Granddad Waggoner. Jim had never known him without gray hair. That’s when he finally figured out that he truly did belong.

Janet had this picture of Granddad so it was really neat to be able to see this man who loved to tease his grandkids.

  1. The mystery is solved. But, I am trying very hard to picture Jim with red hair. It just isn't happening.

  3. My dad had red hair, and mine has always had red highlights, especially in sunlight, although now it's mostly gray. I have a red-headed son too. Always loved red hair!

  7. Nice story Sandie. My mother had bright red hair and we do have several redheads (gingers) on both sides. Graeme is our ginger.

  8. Red hair is the best, the smartest, and the most loving. Isn't that right Sandie?

  9. I also have two redheaded children that I accused of being the milkman's - but they had a red headed grandfather as well - always gray when I knew him.

  12. So the red hair didn't come from the milkman (yes, I remember them) after all... Bet there will be more redheads upcoming in the family.. Gotta keep that tradition going!!!!!!!

    Hugs,
