MEMORY LAPSE

It seems that we “older” folks are not the only ones who have senior moments.

IMG_0525 Last fall we had MCD shades installed on our motor home and we really love them. I hated the curtain thingie that came with the coach and was so glad to throw it in the garbage can. The new shades come with a day and a night shade and are operated by two power switches. Really wonderful for traveling or for when we are parked.

IMG_0524 But this morning our night shade refused to go up. It would go down even thought we didn’t want it to go down any more. And the day shade worked fine. Jim tried a couple of things without success so he called the company that installed the shades and got transferred to George.

IMG_0528 George knew exactly what had happened. The shade motor had a memory loss. (I never realized that motors had a memory but after listening to his explanation it made sense to me.)

IMG_0531 George walked Jim through the process of resetting the memory and the shade works. Wish every repair on our rig was that easy.

  1. On some cars and trucks, when you replace the motor for the power door windows you have to reprogram it's "memory" so it knows exactly just how far up and how far down to roll the window. I'm sure this is the same concept in your shades :)

  2. Ain't you glad old Jim is a trained up in the memory renewin' process. Next time ya fergit somethin' and Old Jim is a gettin' on ya fer it, y'all can tell him to just push the right buttons on ya, and it will all be took care of. If'n he's gotta call George fer help with that, its Jim needs his memory reset and not you.

  4. so now we have to be responsible for memory lapses in our material goods? I have a hard enough time dealing with my own (and Paul's) memory lapses!!

  5. Hmmm...I'm going to have some sunshades installed soon. Don't know if I want the manual or electric ones though.

  6. Don't have those shades, but Roger tells me our leveling system has a "memory". Wish I could reprogram my own personal memory.

  9. Dave has reprogrammed our MCD shades, too. Some of the manual ones are now slipping so could use some resetting as well. It's a nuisance but the shades are well worth it in my opinion.

  10. There's nothing worse than being parked someplace and not be able to pull the front blind down. We had that happen but it was a speck of dust or two that needed to be cleaned out.

  11. Memory lapses are a regular part of my life! We have had a memory lapse on our exhaust brake lately, they are sending a new cable they think will fix it. Wish I could get a new cable!
