OLD MILL VILLAGE

Old Mill Village is a museum in the Endless Mountains in New Milford, PA. The Mill is the site of several civil war battle reenactments and they were holding one the week-end we were there.

We thought this would be a lot of fun so we headed out. Of course, we got lost and finally had to ask directions. We had only made one wrong turn which isn’t too bad for us.

When we finally arrived we discovered that the actual battle reenactment would not be until late that afternoon so we wandered around and visited with the actors and listened to the music.

I found it strange that when I asked a couple of the actors which battle was being reenacted they weren’t sure and didn’t even know which side won this particular battle. They’re just there for the fun. If you can call staying in a tent in the rain and cold, fun.

MONTROSE CAMPGROUND

New Milford, NY – This was a great campground once we got to it. It’s way up on the side of a mountain and the roads were full of potholes. It’s an Escapees Park so it was only $15/night even on the week-end. Nicest owner we’ve ever encountered. Would definitely return to this one. This was the view out of our front window.

WHAT A MESS

The top of our rig after the storm passed through. There were some rather large scratches left after being hit by large acorns and tree branches so after Jim cleaned off the roof, he put duct tape over the spots to protect them until he can get them repaired.

NUMERO UNO

While we were on the East Coast we wanted to take the time to visit Delaware, our first state.

Built to serve as a water tower, the Rockford Tower is made of stone, making it quite impressive. The tower is in Wilmington, DE.

Philadelphia’s Skyline

Since we were camped north of Philadelphia, that meant we also have to drive through Philadelphia.

Phillies’ Stadium

This was just a small reminder of why we no longer live on the east coast and why we love those wide open spaces out west.

The state takes its name from Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr, an English nobleman and Virginia’s first colonial governor.

Downtown Wilmington

Following the American Revolution, statesmen from Delaware were among the leading proponents of a strong central United States with equal representation for each state. Once the Connecticut Compromise was reached—creating a U. S. Senate and U. S. House of Representatives—the leaders in Delaware were able to easily secure ratification of the U.S. Constitution on December 7, 1787, making Delaware the first state to do so.

We really didn’t spend much time here – too much traffic and we also knew Tropical Storm Nicole was headed our way and we wanted to get home. (Just ook at those gray skies.)

LEIPER RAILWAY - PENNSYLVANIA

The Leiper Railroad was a horse drawn railroad that operated between 1810 and 1828 in what is now Nether Providence Township, PA -- it was replaced by a canal, remnants of which are still visible. It was the first documented rail road in America.

Leiper is credited with constructed the first permanent railway or tramway in America. A pair of iron rails laid on wooden ties ran from his quarries to a landing in Delaware County, PA. It was three quarters of a mile in length. An ox, hitched to a cart filled with stone, walked between the rails slowy pulling the cart from the quarry to to Ridley Creek where the stream became navigable. There the cargo was loaded onto barges for the ten mile trip to Philadelphia.

SCOOTER

Scooter loves to hunt – squirrels and chipmunks are her favorite but rabbits and groundhogs are okay too. However, she decided to take on a toad and it didn’t move fast enough. She actually got it in her mouth and let me tell you, she dropped it in a hurry and headed back for the house shaking her head and trying to push the taste out of her mouth. All of that excitement just plain pooped her out.

AND THE RAINS CAME DOWN

Nicole decided she liked the east coat so well she didn’t want to leave.

We were in an RV park in Quakertown, PA. The park is definitely in the woods, oak trees and lots of them which means tons of acorns dropping on us.

But we hunkered down and the rain came down. And came down, and came down. Along with acorns and tree branches. On top of our home. The noise inside our motorhome was incredible. Scooter was freaking out and I wasn’t very happy either. We finally had to take Toni’s advice and we turned on the closed captioning on the TV so we could watch TV.

We then discovered that OOPS we have a leak. Our window in our hallway was definitely not keeping out the rain like it’s supposed to. So in the midst of this storm, we go outside and take a look.

It appears we are going to have to get really creative. The window drain is plugged and Jim can’t get it cleaned out in this rain so somehow we have to divert the water. This was our solution.

Yep, that’s a spatula and tinfoil. It worked!
